The next gas lift well integrity & reliability leap forwards: Barrier SPM's with retrievable check valves www.ptc.as
Introduction • Established reputation for developing equipment in response to client demands • Integrity • Reliability • Productivity • Entered the Gas Lift Market in 2004 and delivered the worlds first • Well Barrier Accredited Gas Lift Valves • Unique check valve and bellows design • 10k pressure rating facilitating deeper lift • Now responding to client demands for enhanced SPM’s www.ptc.as
Well Barrier SPM’s • 3 Messages • The challenge the market asked us to address • How we have addressed the challenge • The benefits www.ptc.as
The challenges to be addressed • GLV is part of primary containment barrier • But if the GLV is removed • Casing / wellhead become the primary barrier • And the secondary barrier ………. • Maybe we should be setting a deep plug? • Market demanded SPM’s w permanent check valves • To maintain well integrity during GLV changeout • At least one exists of course • But the market likes to see competition • And continuous improvement • Second (Independent device) check valve in SPM • Also enhances well reliability during gas lift ops www.ptc.as
The challenges to be addressed • Well Reliability: • The SPM check valve solution in the market to date • Tubing retrievable • In the event it were to fail • Expensive to replace • So the market demanded • A wireline retrievable SPM check valve solution www.ptc.as
Well Barrier SPM’s • Just 3 Messages • The challenge the market asked us to address • How we have addressed the challenge • The benefits www.ptc.as
How we addressed the challenge • A few years ago ……….. • A client came to us with another challenge • Somehow they had installed a SPM facing downwards • Easy done SPM’s usually box/box • We developed an upside down pulling tool • To facilitate change out www.ptc.as
How we addressed the challenge Patent Pending Upwards facing latch retrievable GLV or IPO Downwards facing latch retrievable GLV check valve module www.ptc.as
How we addressed the challenge • Changing Primary GLV • As per normal operation • But lower GLV check valve stays in place • So primary well containment envelope remains intact • No U tubing www.ptc.as
How we addressed the challenge • Replacing the “permanent” GLV • Utilises upside down kick over tool • Primary well barrier is temporarily lost unless a deep set plug is installed • But frequency of operation much less than with conventional solution www.ptc.as
Well Barrier SPM’s • Just 3 Messages • The challenge the market asked us to address • How we have addressed the challenge • The benefits www.ptc.as
The benefits • Enhanced well integrity • Primary barrier not compromised during routine GLV change outs • Enhanced well reliability • 2 High reliability (independent) check valves • Reduced lifecycle costs • If “permanent” check valve fails • it can be replaced using wireline www.ptc.as
The costs • Can’t talk about benefits without also considering the costs • Not going to share the actual costs in this public forum: • But lets play with some numbers, what if •The incremental cost to install PTC barrier SPM’s is £150k/well • Oil price was $100 / bbl ( £62 ) • The average gas lifted well produced 1000 stb oil/day • How many days of accelerated production over the life of the well would be required to payback the investment • 2.5 days • Over the life of your well, could enhanced reliability / simplified well ops deliver that ? • On that basis you could argue the enhanced integrity is for free!! www.ptc.as
