  6. Questions to Ask During a Visit Students (tour guides): Staff Members (admissions, other) What is the admissions process like? What did you do last weekend or are going to do this weekend? When do I have to choose a major? Why did you choose this college? What if I change my mind? What kind of advising will I get? If you could change one thing about the college, what would it be? What kind of student will thrive at this college? What kind of student will thrive at this college? Who would not be happy? What are your options for financial aid/scholarships? What kinds of things do students talk/ debate/complain about? When and how should I apply? How accessible are your professors?   7. Take Notes • Start a college notebook for your reference. • After a visit, take notes about your impressions, your conversations, who you spoke with. Keep cards with the notes. • What excited you? What questions do you still have?

Follow up • It is always nice to send a Thank you note/email to anyone who especially went out of their way to make your visit successful. • Any correspondence is kept for “your file.” • Find out who the admissions representative is for your region (if applicable) and send them email with any lingering questions.

  9. Finally…. • Have Fun! This can be a chance to have some fun as a family. • Ask about fun activities nearby, and schedule some down time while you are out on the road. • Be open to new experiences!
