  2. What is the Teacher Education Institute? The purpose of the Teacher Education Institute is to allow university supervisors, faculty members and school clinical educators to collaborate and better support the development of teacher candidates through a coaching model. Teacher Candidates will be provided expert feedback from multiple professionals on the focus practices identified as essential for beginning teacher success. Who’s in the room? TEI Team Building Meeting ● The purpose of the meeting is to introduce each member of the team and help start building positive relationships. ● Opportunity to introduce focus practice definitions and look fors to teacher candidates. ● Be flexible! ● We encourage you to have this meeting completed by September 30. After Team Building Meeting: ● Teacher candidates should start observing clinical educators with the focus practice definition and look fors. ● Clinical educators, faculty members, and university supervisors can schedule their fall coaching session with the teacher candidate.

Our learning goals for today ● Review a shared understanding and language of focus practices and task selection for teacher‐candidates including ○ facilitating whole class discussion, ○ setting up and managing small group work, ○ and eliciting and interpreting student thinking ● Learn and practice the process for working with a student candidate using the TEI documents ● Develop an understanding of data collection and learn how to collect it ● Develop trust and respect among faculty and clinical educators, and continue to build mindsets of learning among teacher‐educators
