If you have difficulty standing or kneeling, it’s completely ok to remain seated. Announcements about events and opportunities within our community are listed in the back of the leaflet, along with contact information for our church. Children - Children and infants are most welcome. We have a children’s program for younger kids that takes place on stage in the Parish Hall during the service. They return to the sanctuary at the time of Communion. Children are also free to stay with you during the service. If your child becomes fussy or your baby is in need of feeding or changing, don’t worry! Our sides person at the back of the church can direct you to our nursery in the Payton Room, while still hearing the service through a loudspeaker. Please don’t be embarrassed if your baby cries or your children get fidgety. We understand that children make noise and move around. Holy Communion - Those who have been baptized in any Christian church, including children, are welcome to receive communion. If you have not been baptized yet or do not wish to receive the bread and wine, you are welcome to come to the altar rail for a blessing. Simply cross your hands over your chest to alert the priest you wish to receive a blessing.
Please ensure that your cell phone is turned off or in the mute position. Welcome Greeting Processional Hymn: (Tune 427) #157 – “ R ISE U P AND S HINE ” Please stand & sing Rise up and shine! Your light has come; God's glory breaks like dawn. For though the earth be cloaked in night and gloom shrouds everyone, yet over you the Lord will rise, with glory gleaming clear, till nations turn to seek your light and humbled kings draw near. Fling wide your gates, both day and night; no more keep watch or guard. You will be called God's holy hill, the city of the Lord. No sound of strife will plague your land, nor harm besiege your ways; "Salvation" will you name your walls, and all your portals "Praise." No more will you implore the sun to shed by day its light, nor will you need the changeful moon to glisten through the night. Your glory then will be your God, whose light will never cease. Rise up and shine! Your light has come to give you joy and peace. Please be seated Reader: A Reading from the Book of Malachi. See, I am sending my messenger to prepare the way before me, and the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple. The messenger of the covenant in whom you delight — indeed, he is coming, says the Lord of hosts. But who can endure the day of his coming, and who can stand when he appears? For he is like a refiner’s fire and like fullers’ soap; he will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the descendants of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, until they present offerings to the Lord in righteousness. Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasing to the Lord as in the days of old and as in former years. Reader: The word of the Lord. Malachi 3.1-4 People: Thanks be to God. A moment of silence is observed Psalm 84 The Choir sings the refrain, all repeat. Cantor: How dear to me is your dwelling, O Lord of hosts! My soul has a desire and longing for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh rejoice in the living God. The sparrow has found her a house and the swallow a nest where she may lay her young; by the side of your altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God. Refrain Cantor: Happy are they who dwell in your house! They will always be praising you. Happy are the people whose strength is in you! Whose hearts are set on the pilgram’s way. Refrain Cantor: Those who go through the desolate valley will find it a place of springs, for the early rains have covered it with pools of water. They will climb from height to height, and the God of gods will reveal himself in Zion. Refrain Cantor: Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer; hearken, O God of Jacob. Behold our defender, O God; and look upon the face of your Anointed. Refrain Cantor: For one day in your courts is better than a thousand in my own room, and to stand at the threshold of the house of my God than to dwell in the tents of the wicked. For the Lord God is both sun and shield; he will give grace and glory. Refrain
Cantor: No good thing will the Lord withhold from those who walk with integrity. O Lord of hosts, happy are they who put their trust in you! Refrain Reader: A Reading from the Letter to the Hebrews. Please be seated Since, therefore, the children share flesh and blood, Jesus himself likewise shared the same things, so that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by the fear of death. For it is clear that he did not come to help angels, but the descendants of Abraham. Therefore he had to become like his brothers and sisters in every respect, so that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make a sacrifice of atonement for the sins of the people. Because he himself was tested by what he suffered, he is able to help those who are being tested. Reader: The word of the Lord. Hebrews 2.14-18 A moment of silence is observed People: Thanks be to God. Sequence Hymn : (Tune #363) – “ O G OD OF L IGHT ” Please stand & sing The first two verses are sung before the Gospel O God of light, may our light shine, in ways that serve and honor you. May we be loving, just and kind, proclaiming Christ in all we do. God, where your people are oppressed and where they cry out in despair, Make us your light to heal, to bless, a witness, Lord, that you are there. The last two verses will be sung; after the Gospel. Christ, when your way is pushed aside, by those who trust in wealth and might, Make us your lamps that we may guide, a searching world to your love's light. O Spirit, in this world of doubt, we often sin and drift away; When our own faith is flickering out, shine on our path and light our way.
