FERNO STUDENT PARAMEDIC SIMULATION CHALLENGE 26 SEPTEMBER 2076 - ACU, MELBOURNE Introduction Objectives The objective of the Ferno Australia Paramedic Simulation Challenge (FernoSim) is to create a fun, challenging and educational experience for paramedic students that results in participants being better prepared for the myriad challenges that they may encounter in the fjeld. More importantly, it’s a goal of the FernoSim to enlighten and inspire paramedic students from all over the country to deliver the same quality and compassionate care to all patients they encounter after participating in the FernoSim competition / The FernoSim introduces competitors and audiences to new techniques and technology that can be used to manage patients of all levels of criticality / The competition also enables participants to share their expertise, experience, techniques and technology with fellow students from other universities / The FernoSim, unlike other EMS competitions, is not designed to test a team’s ability to recite assessment protocols or achieve “points” for doing the right things / We believe that teams signing up to compete feel confjdent that they excel in assessment and patient care, and that their team members can complete assigned tasks at a rapid, but effjcient pace / About the Sim Challenge The Competition is a 15-minute, scenario-based event that tests each team’s ability to manage multiple patients with varying illnesses or injuries in front of a large audience of their peers / The Competition focuses directly on each team’s ability to: • conduct work as a team; • gain control of a scene including conducting a thorough scene and hazard assessment; • patient and crowd control; • zero in on each patient’s illness or injury and manage each condition in a complete, compassionate and effjcient manner / The competition also serves as an exceptional learning opportunity for the audience and participating teams / FernoSim rules and regulations are designed to ensure standardisation in team preparation and on-site operation and administration of the FernoSim / To ensure consistency with the rules and regulations, only the designated FernoSim Coordinators are permitted to render an interpretation of the rules and regulation, offjcially address team concerns or make on-site operational/administrative decisions / 4 WWW.FERNO.COM.AU/EVENTS

FERNO STUDENT PARAMEDIC SIMULATION CHALLENGE 26 SEPTEMBER 2076 - ACU, MELBOURNE Team Composition • An eligible team comprises three individuals capable of functioning together or individually in prehospital situations / • One team member must be designated as the team leader / • A fourth (alternate) team member may be registered with a team and substituted in the event of illness or injury of one of the three primary team members or other reason acceptable to FernoSim offjcials / Physicians and physician assistants are not eligible for this competition / This is a student only event / • Registration and Entry Fee Registration for the FernoSim is limited to the fjrst ten (10) teams submitting a complete application and entry fee / Each team registration is $100 per team / Code of Conduct, Liability and Model Release All participating team members and alternates must sign and return by email a waiver containing the following: • Participation Agreement & Liability Release Form • Code of Conduct Form • Permission & Photo Release Form NOTE: Failure to complete the waiver, or failure to abide by the principles and practices outlined in the waiver, will result in a team or team member’s disqualifjcation without any refund / Submit all your registration materials to: • cthomson@ferno /com /au Uniforms Because this is a high-profjle event, all team members are required to wear either their clinical placement uniforms or a team competition uniform while competing in FernoSim / Team Reporting Time Blocks & Sequestering Once your registration has been accepted and confjrmed, further updates and schedules will be communicated direct with teams / During the Competition all competing teams will be sequestered in the Team Lockdown Area while not competing to ensure the secrecy of the scenario details / Follow the conversation: #FernoSim 5
