Call to order: 9:10 am II. Roll call III. Open issues a) STEM Ideal Pathway  Discussed concept of Student Cohort at Temecula Complex. Thought Math 110 may be best place to start cohort.  Tabled to next week for clarification with Jared and discussion to include Jared, Dr. Pat, Nik and Charles if possible.  Leticia and Crystal to meet with Jared prior to next meeting. b) LCOM, Linked, Instructor Consent  Currently Math 110(Shala)/Chem 101(Farah); Farah would like to do the same one again next semester AND do a Chem 102/another class (Farah and Leticia are going to survey the current Cohort and do SEP’s to determine the best combo)

STEM FIG Group  CIS 113 (Glenn) / Math 121 (Michael Beckham)  Currently Math 96 (Theresa & Jorge)/ENGL 92; In spring they both want to do Math 105/ENGL 101  Bio 150 (Nick and Michael Plotkin)/Political Science followed by BIO 151/Anthropology c) Chemistry Schedule  Revised schedule for spring accepted with suggestion to add one additional 107 course M 5:30-9:50 pm & W 5:30-7:00 pm  Continued discussion of recommendations for Fall 14 and Spring 15 d) Organic Chemistry options: Suzanne Lingold, Associate Dean, CSUSM Temecula  Farah went to see it, there is no glassware space and only one fume hood, not adequate e) Scheduling Across disciplines  Continued to work on analysis of scheduling conflicts and development of recommendations across disciplines and campuses. f) Engineering Program/Degrees  Discussed presence of Manufacturing and Alternative Energy lab that is funded with SB70 funds, as an additional Engineering resource for the college, where David Hunt teaches MSJC Engineering courses  Reviewed course list on current Draft Model Curriculum for Engineering SB1440 Degrees-only one course would have to be written, but courses are not offered and back logged curriculum has to be addressed first. http://www.c-id.net/degreereview.html  Tabled for discussions with Glenn and Dwight present g) Increasing Waitlists – Tabled  Discussed at Academic Senate & Enrollment management- Is there another way? Limit # of waitlists per course?

New business a) Contracts  Reviewed contract Activities/Tasks required and measurable outcomes b) Declaring Degree – Identifying Students  Made FIG Group aware of this plan for students to have to declare a major before they register each semester.  Group wants to make sure if they are undecided, students could still report an interest in Science c) STEM Website / Activities Calendar  Reviewed STEM Faculty Organization in Black board and Website.  Link to Activities Calendar: http://www.msjc.edu/STEM/Lists/STEM%20Activities%20Calendar/ca lendar.aspx  Suggested to put website link under Academic Programs and under Student Services, useful links d) Surveys  Reviewed results of BIO 150 classes, surveyed, n = 79 e) FLEX Credit  FIG Group made aware of request for STEM Activities to be placed on FLEX Pre-approved list, still awaiting approval from FLEX committee.

STEM FIG Group  Verbiage: It is expected that a Faculty member will do work associated with providing STEM related activities aimed at increasing student awareness, preparation, and success in STEM. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math) is a sequence of courses and programs of study that prepares students for successful employment in related fields. This includes but is not limited to, coordination of a speaker; speaking or presenting; providing a workshop; direct involvement in a STEM Faculty Inquiry Group or Professional Learning Community, STEM related professional development, STEM/Career fair, or STEM Summer Institute; or similar such activity directly associated with the STEM program. The agreement to be involved in such an activity will be coordinated with the STEM Instructional Support Activities Coordinator (Crystal Anthony) and/or the STEM Student Success Activities Coordinator (Leticia Luna-Sims). f) Other Business  Next meeting will be at Menifee Campus 9 am – 12pm on Oct 18 in room 411 II.
