Scope of Work The College Blueprint, LLC (TCB) Long Beach College Prep Academy (LBCPA) 2019-2020 Goal: To provide a comprehensive career exploration, college admissions and standardized test preparation program for a select group of highly motivated and qualified Long Beach Unified School District scholars assisting them to attain admission to the nation’s competitive colleges and universities. Concept: Working in partnership with the Long Beach Unified School District administrators and personnel, The College Blueprint, LLC will provide a customized comprehensive college counseling program 1 for 50 qualified students from who have demonstrated the potential of gaining admission to highly competitive colleges and universities. Through various delivery methods, the program will include career and major exploration, college research and planning, resume preparation, interviewing skills, college applications and essays, and standardized test prep. During 2019-2020, The College Blueprint, LLC will provide Year 1 of LBCPA to the Class of 2021 and Year 2 of LBCPA to the Class of 2020. Class of 2021 Scholars invited to participate in the Academy are selected via an application process administered jointly between LBUSD and TCB during the spring of 2019. One meeting will be held with the scholars prior to the end of the school year. During the school year of 2019-2020, TCB will provide the first year of a two year College Prep Academy. During the first semester of the junior year, scholars meet monthly and receive specialized instruction on researching careers, selecting majors, and researching colleges. In the second semester, LBCPA scholars participate in the District-wide SAT Prep program offered by TCB. Upon conclusion of the Test Prep Program, they resume their monthly meetings and focus on finalizing a personalized list of colleges and identifying scholarship opportunities. Class of 2020 During the summer of 2019, scholars attend a 3 day Summer Intensive Writing Workshop. A session on how to write an effective college application essay is given and students work with their assigned essay coach to generate essays for the colleges to which they plan to apply. In the fall, LBCPA monthly meetings resume with a focus on completing college applications, writing essays, applying for scholarships, securing letters of recommendations, and so on. A financial aid workshop is provided for parents and scholars in early fall. In April 2020, parents and students attend a Decision Day Meeting to review admission, scholarship and financial aid offers. To help parents and students make an informed decision on which college to attend, parents and students meet privately with college counselors and/or financial aid advisors to evaluate offers. The program culminates with an Graduation Celebration for scholars and their families in late May/Early June 2020. Meeting Schedule Most meetings will be held at the LBUSD Teacher Resource Center. A detailed schedule will be provided at a later date. The Summer Intensive Writing Workshop will be held for 3 days during the summer at a location mutually agreed upon by LBUSD and TCB. Access to a computer lab will be particularly important and each session will last approximately 3.5 hours. There are no make-up classes. Staffing and Program Management TCB will coordinate all logistics of the program, monitor the progress of students, generate reports, and manage the program. TCB will coordinate with and work in concert with the LBUSD liaison. There will be two counselors for most monthly meetings. Essay Specialists work 1:1 with their assigned students to assist them in writing effective essays. TCB will assure all instructors have obtained TB tests. Fingerprinting will be provided by LBUSD at no cost to TCB. TCB and LBUSD will provide a joint orientation session for all instructors, as needed. Instructional Materials TCB will provide all instructional materials for the LBCPA, except for the Test Prep Program for which LBUSD provides “The Office SAT Study Guide”. I. Eligibility Requirements The test preparatjon program is available to current 11 th grade students (juniors) at any LBUSD high school who meet the following eligibility requirements: 1. Currently have at least 110 credits and are on - track to graduate next school year 2. Currently are on - track to complete the “ a–g ” college entrance course requirements II. Atuend any one (1) of the mandatory parent meetjngs listed below with a parent in order to learn more about the program and sign important documents. Students and parents may atuend the parent meetjng at “ any ” school, even if it ’ s not “ your ” school.
