Ecosse Subsea Systems Subsea UK UV Conference 27 th September 2016 SCARJet Safe, Simple, Robust
ESS SCARJet SCARJet is a new and innovative addition to ESS’ suite of trenching technologies. Client value-realisation through the application of safe, simple, robust, reliable and cost effective solutions is a key success driver in today’s highly cost sensitive Offshore Renewables and Oil and Gas markets. ESS is rising to this challenge with SCARJet - the latest innovative addition to complement ESS’ existing suite of successful and field -proven SCAR Seabed technologies. The SCARJet innovation incorporates a unique ESS-developed water jetting technology (patent pending), which is anticipated to double trench production rates over existing systems in the same class. The subsea vehicle is a modular design, incorporating hydraulically driven track assemblies, primary burial tool water feed and deployment systems and a workclass ROV docking interface, compatible with the most widely used ROV systems in service today.
ESS SCARJet Surface vessel-located pumps feed the primary burial tools for the basic shallow water (0- 100m) and shore approach configuration of the vehicle. Subsea power and telemetry to the vehicle are relayed through the docked WROV. SCARJet provides a variable jet trenching depth capability in this configuration ranging from 0- 2000mm as standard, increasing to 3000mm with interchangeable tools. In addition, eduction tools are provided as an option for complete slurry clearance, where there is a requirement to maintain an open trench. SCARJet can also be utilised for remedial jetting on pre-cut trenches due to the unique articulating capability of the vehicle track modules enabling SCAR pre-formed trenches with 35-degree side slopes to be easily negotiated.
ESS SCARJet The base vehicle is also fully scale-able to enable deeper water and hard soils trenching operations through the addition of vehicle mounted subsea feed water pumps and mechanical cutting modules. Logistically, the SCARJet system has been designed for compatibility with simple launch and recovery systems and procedures, such that multi-purpose AHTs can be utilised without the need of costly DSV class vessels. Mobilisation and operating costs are thus significantly reduced. In summary, the SCARJet system offers a new value-generating alternative trenching solution for the offshore renewables and oil and gas sectors.
