  5. How can we control what our children do and watch these days? Answer = we can’t. The possibility of exposure through magazines, the internet at other people’s houses, phones etc. is too great We just have to think and react in an appropriate way Things are not worse today; they are just different

  6. Age Restrictions Facebook Aged 13 Almost half of British children aged 9 to 12 are using social networking sites, despite minimum age limits, a report claims. One in five has a Facebook page, even though rules say they must be 13, according to EUKidsOnline.19 Apr 2011 YouTube Below are the minimum age requirements to own a Google Account: United States: 13 or older Spain: 14 or older South Korea: 14 or older Netherlands: 16 or older All other countries: 13 or older

  7. What follows are a series of slides showing web sites that may be of use for various different things to do with keeping children and young people safe on the web. This is a basic list and many more are available. Each page has a hyperlink attached to the image so just click and it will take you to the web site. Unfortunately for our web site we cannot upload PowerPoints so contact me if you want this presentation as a PowerPoint.

  8. Information for the whole family

  9. What are young people using these days on their iPads and phones?

  10. Useful guidance for Parents Also check out http://www.internetmatters.org/ Protect their curiosity YouTube films

  11. These details help you set up security for Windows. You can also speak to your provider (like BT) about safety from their end

  12. Useful little video on how to set up an Apple device to keep it secure for your child

  13. It’s worth checking out exactly what this game involves and to remember the certificate before letting your child play it

  14. Call of Duty The document on the right is an interesting article about this game. It offers a different perspective than one usually hears. This game is often mentioned as being dangerous for vulnerable children to use as it can become obsessive.

  15. FIFA 15 A nice safe game? I was once informed by someone working with vulnerable children that this was the game that caused the most violence and arguments.

  16. Ultimately, it's for parents to decide whether their offspring can cope with being exposed to a game in which they run around and play at being soldiers, albeit in a realistic-looking environment, without developing psychological problems. Teenagers can be famously impenetrable, but I'd advise communicating with them in as rational a way as possible, making sure guidelines are set before the game has even been played. And if parents tried playing the games themselves, they would soon realise it's all about high- quality escapism, and probably wonder what all the fuss was about. 17. We use this excellent short story film with the pupils https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgCNGvL0g1g

  18. Get iPlayer Freemake A couple of the more interesting and useful free downloads. I include them to show you that for every nasty thing on the web there are probably a hundred great things. Get iPlayer allows you to download iPlayer programs and keep them forever as an mp4. Freemake allows you to copy your DVD collection into mp4s so you can get rid of the discs. You can also download YouTube clips to your computer. You can use this to transfer the soundtrack of videos to mp3s to use on your music player. These programs are free!

  19. Don’t forget most stuff on the internet is great! Watch this for a seasonal treat
