S OLID W ASTE
C URTILAGE & E XPECTATION OF P RIVACY Definition The area usually enclosed, encompassing the grounds and buildings immediately surrounding a home that is used in the daily activities of domestic life. The determination of what constitutes curtilage is important for purposes of the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution, which prohibits unreasonable SEARCHES and SEIZURES of a person and of his/her home or property. Courts have construed the word home to include curtilage so that a person is protected against unlawful searches and seizures of his/her curtilage.
W HAT IS S OLID W ASTE ? SMC 13.02.0126 “Solid Waste” or “waste” means the entire local general stream generated or accumulated in the City of Spokane, including general mixed solid waste, separated waste and recyclable materials. General-mixed solid and semi-solid putrescible, discarded materials such as kitchen, food, animal and vegetable wastes; and “refuse”, which is non -putrescible discarded materials, such as rubbish, ashes or other miscellaneous wastes. “Solid waste” include recyclables from residential -use premises unless other wise specifically indicated or apparent from the context.
R EFUSE SMC 13.02.0224 Refuse is an accumulation of trash and or garbage on the property. An accumulation of refuse may result in a Notice of Violation ordering the material to be removed.
