GEOGRAPHICAL DATES • The Branesti commune is situated 15 km east from Bucharest, the capital city of Romania ; • Our commune is made up of four parts: Branesti Islaz ( =common), Pasarea ( =bird), Vadul Anei (= Anne’s ford ). • The population is about 12.000 inhabitants.
History ● The first documents prove the existence of Branesti since the XVI-th century, so the commune is at least 400 years old. ● Between the years 1800- 1830, the first Bulgarian families from the south of the Danube migrated in Branesti. They influenced the language and the customs. ● The name “Branesti” comes from the word “braniste”, which means “meadow”.
