Wallkill Central School District Guiding Principles The Wallkill Central School District has developed a hybrid instructional plan that is aligned with NYSDOH/NYSED* guidelines. In addition, parent feedback and research of best practices were considered in the development of the instructional plan. Lastly, the plan addresses the following four (4) guiding principles: • Ensuring Students and Staff Remain Healthy and Safe • Maintain Continuity of Learning • Ensure Access and Equity for All Students • Effective Communication *New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) *New York State Education Department (NYSED)

KEY ELEMENTS REQUIRED FOR ALL PROGRAMS
Curriculum and Instruction The District will develop instructional experiences that are inclusive, culturally responsive, and consider the needs of all students along with being aligned with the outcomes of the New York State Learning Standards.
Technology The District will continue to provide students with a Chromebook or other device so that they can participate in the online Learning Plan. Technology support will be provided by the District Technology Department for students and parents throughout the school day. The District will work with families in need of Wi-Fi.
Social/Emotional Supports • Teachers will plan to gradually transition students back to school. • Teachers will check in live daily with students. • The District will be reconvening its School Counseling Committee to update its plan to address the social/emotional needs of our students. • Responsive to Intervention Teams will be available to assist with students that are having difficulty. • School social workers, behavior intervention specialists, and school psychologists will offer social/emotional supports. • PBIS Teams will update plans to address the needs of the students in the building.
Teacher Professional Development • Summer Curriculum work will include content area teachers identifying New York State focus standards and aligning curriculum to them. Teachers will streamline instruction and create a monthly calendar of standards to be taught. • Social/Emotional and Mental Health best practices to help students transition to school and deal with trauma will be researched and workshops will be offered to faculty and staff through Ulster BOCES and other providers. • The School Counseling Advisory Committee will be convened to update our School Counseling plan to include resources for social emotional learning so that we are prepared to support our students as they transition back to school; teachers will also be provided with professional development in this area. • School social workers and other related providers will get together to discuss resources that can be provided to teachers, students, and staff to assist with the transition back to school. They will also update our website to include resources. • Ulster BOCES Technology Integration Specialist will provide summer workshops for Wallkill faculty and staff to assist them with implementing technology tools and planning instruction.
FULL TIM IME DIS ISTANCE LEARNING PLAN
Full Time Distance Learning Plan The Distance Learning Plan experience will be done remotely at home and will consist of daily live interaction between the teachers and students. The online learning experience will be standards- based and will include high quality rigorous instructional opportunities and learning experiences. • Our plans were developed collaboratively with teams of teachers at each level (HS, MS, and Elementary) led by the building principals. • Teams reviewed student (grades 5-12 ), parent, and faculty survey data (June 2020) to identify areas of strengths and challenges with our distance learning plan which was in place from March-June 2020. • Teachers worked together to revise the instructional model, so that we improved upon and strengthened the plan from last year.
Kindergarten- Grade 4 Full Tim ime Dis istance Learning Essential Ele lements The Instructional Delivery Method will be determined by the teacher to ensure that students are provided with regular interaction with the teacher and their peers and that instruction is aligned with the New York State Learning Standards. Wha hat to o Ex Expect: • Teachers will instruct the students live via zoom or another district approved software on a daily basis. • Students will also be working remotely when they are not interacting live with their teacher. During this time they will be provided with meaningful learning experiences such as: independent work, small group work, viewing instructional videos, conducting research or doing projects. The assigned work will be standards based. • Daily Office Hours/Anchor Times will be available for students and parents for additional support. • Special Areas: A schedule will be communicated to students and parents. • Academic Intervention Services and ENL Services will be provided to the students that need them and a schedule will be provided to students and parents.
Grades 5-6 Full Tim ime Dis istance Learning Essential Ele lements Content Specialty Model for Online Learning: Grades 5 and 6 will continue to plan and deliver instruction via the Content Area Specialty Model that was implemented in the 2019-2020 school year. Students will work with a team of teachers who will each provide instruction in a specific content area ( i.e.: Math, SS, Science). All homeroom teachers will teach English Language Arts. The Instructional Delivery Method will be determined by the teacher to ensure that students are provided with regular interaction with the teacher and their peers and that instruction is aligned with the New York State Learning Standards.
Grades 5 and 6 Full Tim ime Dis istance Learning Essential Ele lements What to Expect: • There will be live interaction on a daily basis for ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies. • Students will also be working remotely when they are not interacting live with their teacher. During this time they will be provided with meaningful learning experiences such as: independent work, small group work, viewing instructional videos, conducting research or doing projects. The assigned work will be standards based. • Academic Intervention Services and ENL Services will be provided as needed and a schedule will be communicated home. • Special Area Teachers: A schedule will be communicated to students and parents. • Office Hours: Time period where teachers are available to provide students with additional assistance and/or meet with parents.
Grades 7-12 12 Full Tim ime Dis istance Learning Essential Ele lements • Teachers in Grades 7-12 will meet with students live based on their scheduled day (X/Y day schedule will be in place). • Instruction provided will be aligned to NYS Learning Standards and will include meaningful learning activities such as independent work, group work, online modules or tasks to be completed, instructional videos to view, research that needs to be conducted by the student, and or learning projects. • Students and parents will be provided with the schedule of content area teachers that are scheduled on the X and Y days. • Students will follow their regular Class schedule to access X/Y day Live sessions with teachers so that there is no conflict with content areas hosting “live” sessions at the same time. • Office hours will be available for the student to meet with the teacher 1:1 or in small groups to get assistance. Office hours will also be available for parents to contact teachers as needed.
