APRIL - JUNE 2019 "This Staff report will update the North Fair Oaks Council on crime, organizational performance, and community outreach initiatives.
The second quarter of 2019, there was a Part 1 Crimes are the reduction with vehicle thefts of 20%, universal standard upon assault 42% and rape of 50%. Below is a this trend and it is working on graph of our Part 1 Crime implementing additional measures to rate for the years 2018 increase safety in the North Fair Oaks area. and 2019.
During this time period, the residential burglaries had remained constant in comparison with 2018 with 3 incidents. 50% 0% We also experienced a reduction of 30% of commercial RAPE ROBBERIES burglaries with only 2 incidents reported for 2019. The Sheriff’s office is aware of this situation and it continues working on promoting the house check service for residence and safety workshops. 0% 42% HOMICIDE ASSAULT The downward trend in the violent crimes rates has continued in the second quarter of 2019. Rape was 2 3 reduced by 50% and assault by 42% contrasted with the same period of 2018. The rate for robberies has remained RESIDENTIAL COMMERCIAL constant with 2 incidents; same as the same period for 2018. As in previous years, we have not had any homicide cases in 2019.
There has been a slight increment in the citations from 2018 to 2019. In the second quarter of 2019 we can see an increment of 16% in parking violations. The moving PARKING violations increased at a rate of 33.6%. We can also appreciate and increment by 2 in the number of citations for bicycles during this period. We have focused on education and awareness to the community. We still MOVING have challenges with more people living under one roof and some businesses parking vehicles into the neighborhoods. Overall, we experienced an overall general crime decrease in comparison to 2018. The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office has implemented new and continued initiatives for the North Fair Oaks Community: • Proactive Response by the Sheriff’s Office: The Sheriff’s Office is continuously planning new strategies to respond in a rapid and efficient way; specially when crime tendencies increase, or we notice new crime trends. Our goal is to -maintain communication with the community members and business owners to act proactively, Engaged Community: We have continued to present our usual programs in the community such as Coffee • with the Community, Community Dialogues, Community Academies, Parenting Classes, Youth Academies, and Community Barbeques; as well as, new programs such as the Pacific Islander Youth Academy and the Camera Registry Program. Our Deputies continue foot patrol, proactive patrol and read to children at the library to reinforce the bond with our community. We strive at strengthening and nurturing the relationship between law enforcement and the community. We are committed to serving the Community of North Fair Oaks. Use of Technology to Improve our Services in the Community: In preparation for the 4th of July the San • Mateo County Sheriff's Office run an investigation on Shotspotter and organized a campaign to prevent the public from usage of illegal fireworks and illegal gunfire. Banners were place on public view to make people aware of this efforts. The campaign included door-to-door efforts distributing door hangers, as well as, informational fliers throughout the community. Two sign trailers were on display in the area and a press campaign was promoted in English and in Spanish on social media. On the fourth of July, Deputies were assign specifically for prevention and enforcement of this regulations. The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office worked in collaboration with the Menlo Park Fire District, and the Redwood City Police Department.
Clearance rates essentially reflect a law enforcement agency’s ability to solve crime. The table below reflects the clearance rates for the Sheriff’s Office from April to June of 2018 and 2019. Please keep in mind that some of those crimes might have occur recently and are still under investigation.
