The Institute of Banking and Finance of Trinidad and Tobago PUBLIC SPEAKING & PRESENTATION SKILLS Two (2) Day - Training Workshop Outline OVERVIEW: The Public Speaking and Presentation Skills Workshop will introduce specific concepts that are integral for impactful and highly effective public speaking and presentations. By learning appropriate preparation techniques, participants will learn to overcome their apprehensions towards speaking in public and thus become more confident and effective speakers/presenters. This workshop will focus on the following key areas identified below: DAY 1 – Public Speaking Public Speaking Theory- understanding the theories of public speaking and how they have evolved into modern day speaking practices; Defining Your Purpose- understanding your role and purpose in a public speaking engagement and obtaining buy-in from your audiences; Knowing Your Personality- understanding your core personality and strengths and playing to those strengths to project better in public speaking engagements; Audience Analysis and Assessment- tips to better read and understand your audience needs and requirements and also how to tailor your speeches to varying audiences; How to Prepare for Public Speaking – quick tips and tricks to prepare for speaking engagements such as mind games etc.; Knowing Your Venue- understanding the need for venue evaluation and its impact on movement in and around speaking venue; Case Study 1- application of a public speaking scenario and in-class discussion on issues covered in the earlier segment; Group Exercise – group exercise where public speaking engagement is developed by group and presented by group leader;
The Institute of Banking and Finance of Trinidad and Tobago DAY 2 – Presentation Skills Reducing Your Fears- more tips and tricks to prepare for speaking engagements such as visualization techniques and deep focus etc.; Using your voice: projection, intonation, emphasis and pacing- delivering sample presentations and the use of one’s voice as the main delivery tool. Participants would be performing live presentations and group will critically assess areas of projection, intonation, emphasis and movement around the location; Power Point Presentation Skills- How to use power point to create impactful presentations to convey your message appropriately. Non-verbal communication- exploring various types of non-verbals and their importance to overall presentation delivery; Demonstrating passion and enthusiasm- videos that showcase delivery of speeches/presentations with passion and enthusiasm (Barack Obama and Basdeo Panday examples); Case Study 2- application of a presentation scenario and in-class discussion on issues covered in the earlier segment; Group Presentations - group exercise where presentation exercise is developed by group and presented by group leader; LEARNING OUTCOMES: Participants will be able to: Understand the origins of public speaking theory and how it has evolved; Evaluate their own presentation styles and understand their presentation personality; Develop skills and strategies to analyse and assess varying audiences and adjust presentation styles to adapt to these audiences;
The Institute of Banking and Finance of Trinidad and Tobago Obtain skills/tricks for dealing with fear of public speaking and mechanisms to overcome them; and Work in a group setting to critically analyse presentation skills via the use of case studies and real life practical situations. METHODOLOGY: Teaching of the two (2) sessions will be via facilitator presentations, interactive exercises inclusive of case studies, videos and participants working in groups. PARTICIPANT REQUIREMENTS: Participants or groups are required to have one laptop for use with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint software.
