Introduction • Within City-wide chapter • Objectives & Policies applicable to activities within zone chapters • Purpose – “Public art provides an opportunity to create a sense of place, and to add to an aesthetically attractive and vibrant City.”
• Approach consistent with: – City Vision - Particularly that ‘People love living here’ & Goal that “ Our city is attractive, well- designed and compact, with outstanding architecture and distinctive public spaces .” – City Strategies – Hamilton Arts Agenda – VISTA which encourages artworks and design features which reflect local stories and contribute to Hamilton’s sense of place
• There are no rules in this chapter of the Plan • The Plan contributes to the inclusion of public art in public places through bulk and location standards and incentives • For example - granting of additional floor area • Relevant documents: – Public Art Plan 2010-2020 – Hamilton Arts Agenda 2012 – Hamilton City Public Places Bylaw 2009
Summary of Submissions • 1 Submission from NZTA • Seeking addition of a new Policy (25.9.2.1e) to ensure that the provision of public art does affect traffic safety • Accepted – consistent with Objective and other Policies
