GRADE 9 GRADE 11 INTRODUCTION TO PHYSICS Chemistry Introduction to Physics ---no prerequisite Honors Chemistry Introduction to Physics Honors- --prerequisite: B+ in 8 th Applied Physics (project based) grade physical science and B+ in Honors Algebra I with a Honors Physics strong recommendation from both of your science and AP Physics I math teachers. The math component of this course is AP Biology significant. Students are more successful when they have AP Chemistry (students must have had either a strong knowledge of Algebra I. Chemistry or Honors Chemistry first) PLEASE NOTE: Anatomy and Physiology Students taking Introduction to Physics will take the Engineering for the Future Physical Science MCAS in the spring. If they pass that exam, they will have met their state science graduation Sustainability of Earth’s Ecology requirement and will not have to take a science MCAS in GRADE 12 their sophomore year. Chemistry GRADE 10 Honors Chemistry Biology – no prerequisite Applied Physics (project based) Honors Biology Honors Physics Chemistry AP Physics I Honors Chemistry AP Biology PLEASE NOTE: AP Chemistry (students must have had either All students must take and pass a course in Biology to Chemistry or Honors Chemistry first) graduate from High School. Anatomy and Physiology Students may double up in biology and chemistry if Engineering for the Future they choose. However, they must meet the prerequisites Sustainability of Earth’s Ecology to do so and both courses must fit into their daily school schedule. The Social Studies Department seeks to enable students to participate intelligently and responsibly in their local and global communities. Emphasis is placed on the development of research, communication, critical thinking, and study skills that will foster civic participation and equip the student for postsecondary learning. Social Studies requirements Three social studies credits are required for graduation. One high school credit in U.S. History is required for graduation. Global Studies is a required course for sophomores. Grade 9 : U.S. History II – required course for graduation Grade 10 : Global Studies – required course for sophomores (College Prep or Honors) Grades 11 & 12: Plan to offer every year Civil Law (one semester) Holocaust & Human Behavior (semester, College Prep or Honors) Criminal Justice (one semester) Modern American History (College Prep or Honors) Current Events (one semester or full year) Psychology (College Prep or Advanced Placement) Economics (Honors) U.S. Pop Culture Seminar (College Prep or Honors) To be offered next year (2018-2019), and then in alternating years: European History (Advanced Placement) U.S. Government & Politics (Advanced Placement) Plan to offer in 2019-2020, and then in alternating years: Ancient & Medieval History (College Prep or Honors) Human Geography (Advanced Placement) Eligibility prerequisites For 10th grade Global Studies Honors, students need a B+ in U.S. History II and teacher recommendation. For 11th and 12th grade electives, eligibility prerequisites vary; please refer to the Program of Studies for specifics. World Languages Offerings Students who pursue the study of French or Spanish will: Communicate in the language of study • Develop an appreciation and understanding of cultural similarities and differences • Be prepared to be a member of a global community • Read and understand authentic literature at age appropriate levels • Community with accuracy when writing, reflecting acquired skills • Develop a greater understanding of the English language • SEQUENCE- French SEQUENCE -Spanish GRADE 8 : French Grade 8 GRADE 8 : Spanish Grade 8 GRADE 9 : French 2 GRADE 9 : Spanish 2 or Spanish 2 Honors GRADE 10 : French 3 GRADE 10 : Spanish 3 or Spanish 3 Honors** GRADE 11: French 4 Honors GRADE 11 : Spanish 4 or Spanish 4 Honors** GRADE 12 : French 5 Honors GRADE 12 : Spanish 5 Honors or AP Spanish or AP French GRADES 9-12 : Spanish 1 SEQUENCE- American Sign Language Grades 9-12: ASL 1 ** Students who wish to change from non-honors to honors level classes must work independently over the summer and take the Honors level final from the previous year of study before the beginning of the next school year.
