Central Valley Justice Coalition Presentations Human Trafficking 101 Recommended time frame: 3 hours This is an introductory course on the issue of human trafficking, with emphasis on the trends in the Central Valley of California. Over the course of three hours, participants will learn the definition of human trafficking and the forces that lead people to be both victims and perpetrators. The presentation is interactive and multi-media based. It is generally recommended for ages 16 and older. We cover the following: Myths and Misconceptions We will identify and address common myths surrounding the issue of human trafficking. We will discuss current trends in our community. Red Flags It is vital that we in the community begin to recognize signs of trafficking around us. We will understand the experiences of survivors of trafficking and learn what signs we can be aware of. Action Steps Throughout the class, resources will be discussed, and suggestions will be given about what we can do to make a difference, right where we are. *Note: We offer a one-hour condensed version of this training.
Human Trafficking 201 Recommended time frame: 3 hours A follow-up to our introductory HT101 course, 201 will further explore some of the issues addressed in HT101, and expand our understanding of both the local and global picture. We cover the following: Labor Trafficking and Conscious Consumerism What does human trafficking look like in other parts of the world? The truth is that we in America often unknowingly contribute to the global problem of slavery. In this course, we will discuss our role and how we can affect change. Partnership and Resources Hear from those who are on the frontlines in the fight against human trafficking in the Central Valley, including law enforcement, who will share about current trends. Current Legislation Fighting trafficking requires a multi-faceted approach. We will discuss recent legislative efforts to bring about change, as well as current proposals awaiting response from our law makers.
Christian/ Biblical Perspective on Justice Recommended time frame: One Hour As a faith-based organization, we place great value on what the Bible says about justice. The presentation will introduce your church or faith group to the issue of human trafficking in the Central Valley, provide the opportunity to hear real stories of survivors, and examine the role of the church in combating injustice. This presentation can be tailored to fit the needs of your congregation or faith group . School Presentation (Youth/Young Adult) Drawing on knowledge gained in nearly ten years fighting trafficking in the Central Valley, we introduce students to the realities of human trafficking in our local context. This presentation introduces the concept of human trafficking at an age-appropriate level. We discuss exploitation and vulnerability, what to do if you or a friend needs help, internet safety, pornography, and our impact as consumers. It can be adjusted for junior high, high school or early college level, and can be adapted to fit scheduling needs.
Youth Group Presentation Recommended time frame: 60-90 minutes This presentation introduces the concept of human trafficking at an age-appropriate level and ties into what the Bible teaches us about God’s heart for people . We discuss exploitation and vulnerability, what to do if you or a friend needs help, internet safety, pornography, and our impact as consumers. With options for breakout sessions, this presentation can easily be tailored to your youth group needs. It is primarily geared for high school students, but can be adjusted for junior high as needed. Preventing Human Trafficking for Educators Recommended time frame: 75-90 minutes Our goal is to end human trafficking, and we know that prevention is the best cure. Educators have the potential to be on the frontlines in this fight to end human trafficking, but they need to know what to look for. We will help shine light on what is happening in our schools, what to look for, and how to respond. You will leave with a deeper understanding of the ways teachers, parents, and everyone in our schools can make a difference.
Technology, Teens, and Trafficking Recommended time frame: 2 hours This class is for parents and caregivers, or any adult who wants to better understand the risk factors associated with human trafficking for young people in particular. We will discuss the particular challenges today’s youth face with their near constant access to technology, as well as the challenges we adults face if we did not grow up with the same media literacy as our kids. You will leave equipped to have meaningful conversations with the teens and tweens in your life and new ideas for how to keep them safe. This curriculum was developed by Love 146, and the Justice Coalition teaches it as a licensed facilitating organization.
