Condense and simplify information so that you only learn the important facts and ideas.
Why Flashcards Help Us Learn 1. Flashcards engage “active recall” Using flash cards requires that users recall information from scratch. This type of information processing has been proven to result in successful long-term retention
Why flashcards help us learn 2. Flashcards utilize your metacognitive faculties Flash cards allow users to self-reflect and assess their progress . This is known as metacognition. They prompt users to ask questions like: Was my answer close to the correct answer? If not, how far off was it? If so, how accurate was it? How many questions have I answered correctly today? The more answers that are correct, the more inclined the users are to continue learning.
Why flashcards help us learn: 3. Flashcards allow for confidence-based repetition Due to the fact that flash cards are independent from books or other documents, users can categorize cards into piles that need to be studied more. This confidence-based repetition has been proven to be the leading method of improving memory performance. Long-Term Learning About a year ago, Quizlet launched Long-Term Learning. Long-Term Learning uses a standard spaced repetition algorithm, similar to SuperMemo or Anki. It works something like this: Introduce a few new terms each day Study all of the day’s terms until you get them all correct, then study the new terms again the next day Each time a term is answered correctly, increase the delay until it’s studied again by a little more than double (Study 1 day later, 3 days after that, then 7 days, 16 days, etc.) If a term is answered incorrectly, start over and reset the delay for that term to 1 day
Online Flash Cards (and much more) Free for Students and Teachers Use for any subject Find teacher-created materials for any subject matter Great for Co-requisite classes
