Our Objectives To enhance the capacity building of the coop Arinagata To solve the problem that face by coop To achieved the goals of coop Constraint: - Lack of skill of coop management - Not capable to do direct selling - Lack of market information - Lack of management data of harvest and product estimation
Understanding of Canada Market Opportunities Knowledge and Skills Gained: • We have broadened our knowledge and skills on how to improve quality especially post harvest processing and bean grading quality demanded and required by the Canadian and Northern America markets. • We have new knowledge about the important of roaster supply chain market in Canada • We have learned that buyers and consumers in Canada have high concern in social empowerment and environmental protection (good agriculture practices)
One-On-One Consultations with Sector Experts Knowledge and Skills Gained: • Ability to do short business presentation our coffee and business profile to potential buyers. We learned the key messages to be addressed • Better skills on how to develop fact-sheet and website and improved our confidence in international trade and promotion. • improved our skills on how to follow up with potential buyers and how to clarify various business inquiries from existing and potential buyers.
Processing or Production Knowledge and Skills Gained: • In the production side, we learned a useful analysis on how to estimate production by monthly. The tools provided by TPSA has equipped us with production data and improve our inventory management system. • The data is useful when meeting with buyers offering our availability to export.
Sales and marketing promotion materials Knowledge and Skills Gained: • Our promotional approach and tools have totally changed and much better after joining TPSA. The promotional items have shown important messages and data that is useful for buyers. • We benefited a lot from the training on how to develop website for coffee producers. We managed to identify and collect information and promotion material to be displayed on our website. • After joining TPSA, our social media has become more productive and used actively for marketing purposes. • Our promotion has become very effective, the promotion has become faster and clearer and potential buyers are able to contact us directly which did not happened in the past. We easily introduce our business now.
Trade Show Participation Knowledge and Skills Gained: • We have fully understood what to prepare in term of logistic for international trade show after two SCA coffee shows with TPSA. In 2019, we have been able to some appointments with existing buyers and potential buyers. • We have better skills on how to prepare and organize an cupping session at international • Our confident to approach customer is getting stronger after receiving technical assistance from TPSA, we can introduce our business to more coffee importers in SCA Boston 2019. • Follow up through email correspondence with quick response and sending sample are useful lessons we learned from TPSA.
Canadian Rules and Regulations and Export Procedures Knowledge and Skills Gained: • Joining TPSA Project, we managed to do direct exports to Canada i.e. Vancouver and Montreal • On our first direct export to Canada, we learn and enhance our knowledge on certified compliance of US and Canada organic equivalency arrangement. • The experience is useful when we applied for the second export of coffee to Canadian importer – Montreal • As producers and licensed exporter, potential buyers are more confident to deal with us.
Interaction with Prospective Buyers Knowledge and Skills Gained: • We are able to secure one additional buyer outside TPSA assistance and confirmed export for one container. The promotional skills we learned from TPSA have led to this transaction. • More confident in doing business directly with international customers.
Upstream Supplier Benefits to other MSMEs Knowledge and Skills Gained: • Learning from TPSA has inspired us the facilitate the establishment of Women Coffee Coop (Ari Aras Awali/ AAA) • We learned from TPSA that mainstreaming social and gender aspects in coffee business has potential customers in Canada and US. • We also managed to facilitate one export shipment for this woman coop to a buyer from UK. This has created more jobs for women coffee producers in Gayo. • We have transferred some skills to AAA women coop i.e. how to create fact sheet for coffee producers and how to deal with buyers as well as learning how to organize buyer mission. • In coffee business, we learned from TPSA that coffee commodity shall be integrated to cultures, social, tourism, and culinary
Others - Business Planning • Already purchased land to build our own warehouse, processing facility • The facility later will help us maintain our supply, quality and unique flavor of Gayo Arabica coffee • After TPSA completion, we continue working with Ministry of Trade to increase export – support from Ministry of Trade is vital for local export
