  2. Tonight’s agenda Background to Let’s Get Wellington Moving • Update on recent progress • Outline of a range of possible interventions in key • focus areas - conceptual only (no plans or details) Opportunity for your feedback • Next steps •

  3. Background and scope: Ngauranga to Airport Joint approach to find solutions to the • challenges of the transport network in Ngauranga to Airport corridor Partners : NZ Transport Agency, • Greater Wellington Regional Council, Wellington City Council Agreed to work together on a • whole-of-system approach to transport and its interaction with land use, especially in the central city. Working towards a preferred approach • and Implementation Plan

  4. Project phases 1 Survey the region - what matters to people and how they move around 2 Use information to develop a set of urban design and transport principles 3 Develop and test a range of different interventions and We are scenarios (packages of here interventions) against programme objectives and assessment criteria 4 Consult with the public on short list of scenarios 5 Use the results of evaluation and public feedback to identify a preferred scenario as the basis for an implementation plan.

  5. Guiding principles Public engagement last year led to the development of a set of urban design and transport principles The principles are used to help to guide our decisions

  6. Defining the problem Wellington is a great place to live, work and visit but the transport system is impacting on its liveability, and its economic growth and productivity What outcomes are we seeking? Liveability Economic growth Safety Resilience and productivity What problems do we face? Small number Competition Cross-directional Through traffic of constrained for limited movements must traverse STRATEGY and corridors road space create conflict the CBD FUNDING Increasing Poor and Safety issues, Vulnerability to congestion and declining levels especially for disruption from unreliable of service for all active modes unplanned events journey times modes

  7. Objectives agreed by project partners A transport system that … Enhances the liveability of the central city • Provides more efficient and reliable access for all users • Reduces reliance on private vehicle travel • Improves safety for all users • Is adaptable to disruptions and future uncertainty • STRATEGY and FUNDING For each of these objectives, we have developed a set of assessment criteria , which will be used to assess different scenarios

  8. Interventions and focus areas Wide range of possible interventions • Interventions discussed at stakeholder workshops under 4 focus • areas: Better public transport • Improving the State highway • Active transport improvements • Travel demand management • Within each focus area, levels of intervention along a spectrum: • do minimum (current commitments), low, medium, high •
