Scholarship Awardee – Akingbola Nofisat Nofisat lost her father at an early age, and her mother – a trader – could not afford to send her to school. She spent most of her time selling goods from a small table in front of her house until last year when she was enrolled in school at the age of 8. She could only speak Yoruba. Within a year, she has learnt to communicate in English, grasp concepts quickly and has been praised for her level of compassion to others. Nofisat has posted a 100% attendance rate at school and does not miss a day at school. Having finished top of the Grade 1 class in the last session, her teachers firmly believe that with financial support she can make up for the time she lost when she was out of school.
Scholarship Awardee – Nnaji Confidence Confidence exudes a great level of seriousness to her school work. She is hardworking, punctual, enthusiastic and adept at applying concepts in class to real world situations. Unfortunately her mother passed away and her father being very poor, had to keep her out of school school for a while because he could not afford her education. Her teachers have characterised her as very impressive, and sometimes use her work as examples for other children. She is a motivated pupil and has great potential to succeed and so we consider her worth the educational investment.
Scholarship Awardee – David Chekam Obasi David has shown leadership traits in class. He is conscientious, disciplined, and punctual. Despite the demise of his father in 2017, David has remained devoted to his school work, ensuring that all assignments are completed within timelines. Financial difficulties have meant that the family has had to rely on his mother’s sister occasionally for support, when she can afford it, but this has not affected his drive for achievement. His teachers have found him to be engaging and are certain that he is capable of achieving higher grades if well supported.
