  3. Portishead WASP Vision A wheels park that unites and has the support of the local community – individuals, families, groups, organisations, local businesses and local Council • A high quality, innovative, bespoke wheels park that is located in the best possible site centrally within the town • Facility for all abilities and those with additional needs and vulnerable groups thus enabling people to interact in an open and accessible environment • A mixed use wheels park, accessible to skate boarders, scooters, BMX-ers and roller/inline skaters of all abilities – a safe environment for newcomers to develop skills and challenging enough for experts to perfect and share their expertise • A wheels park that enables users to develop skills, promote self esteem, perseverance, respect for others, social responsibilities and develop leadership skills – all within a safe and secure facility • A sustainable wheels park – one that can be funded initially through grants and donations and then maintained by WASP & the Council and through ongoing fundraising. The design of the facility will enable good , cost effective maintenance • A welcoming and positive environment that all members of the community feel safe in – users off all ages share skills and expertise, spectators enjoy and engage with, a resource that reduces anti-social behavior and will be a central hub for the local community • A facility that is enjoyed, benefits and enhances the whole community of Portishead both now and in the future – for users and spectators

  4. Requirements to consider for wheels park location • Safe – in public view so that it can be self policed for purposes of protection of users safety • Approximately 800 – 1000m2 of space • Ample distance from residential buildings • Existing facilities that can be used (in particular, toilets) • Impact on surrounding areas • Land ownership

  16. Funding for Portishead Wheels Park • Once a location has been agreed with North Somerset Council (NSC) then WASP can look into the cost of a Wheels park based on the available space and thus size of park • Depending on NSC & Town Council support, either manage funds as per Nailsea and Bradley Stoke Wheels park and Council manage the funds or WASP managed as now registered as a CIC • CIC acknowledgement from both Companies House and HMRC, as well as bank account now opened. • Once ALL the above is established we can then start applying for sports grants, fundraising and investigating plans

  17. Next Steps • Require feedback from North Somerset Council on the proposal • Need to agree with NCS how to proceed and establish a positive working relationship to move the project forward and gain approval for application for consent from Landlords in writing • Need to agree on the location – do NSC & Town Council support any proposed? • WASP to discuss/agree plans with a Wheels Park designer/s • WASP in conjunction with NSC & Town Council to investigate available funding and organise fundraising events for any deficit in the funding • Consultation with partner agents, residents, user groups & businesses in the surrounding area
