Pitch and loudness By Aniyah Bilgrami
Pitch Pitch is how high or low some sounds are. An example of pitch is an opera singer that has high or low. The Greek mathematician Pythagoras observed that a long string produces a sound with a lower pitch that a shorter string.high and low are words to describe pitch.
Volume Volume is how loud or soft something. It depends on the amount of energy in a sound wave. There is a difference between a yell and a whisper.to make a louder sound with a rubber band pluck it harder. A loud sound has more energy that a soft sound.
How pitch and volume are measured Volume is measured in decibels. And when you start to go over 20 decibels it starts to hurt like when you are at loud concert. Pitch is measured in hertz a frequency of one vibration per second is one hertz humans hear from about 20 hertz to about 20,000 hertz
High pitch vs. low pitch The difference is that the higher the pitch the more squeezed together the waves are on the oscilloscope. The lower the pitch the more spread apart the waves are. Higher pitch has more frequency and lower pitch has less. High pitch has more energy that low pitch.
Loud volume vs. soft volume Loud volume has more energy. Soft energy has less energy...for example when a cup is attached to a rubber band, the cup and rubber band vibrate together. You can also make a sound louder by increasing the amount of surface that vibrates.
