Introduction UNREC Is the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs field presence in Africa, based in Lomé, Togo Operates under the Regional Disarmament Branch Is funded through the regular budget (existing resources within the Secretariat) and voluntary contributions from Member States and other donors Provide assistance, upon request, to Member States, African Union, African regional and subregional organisations
Mandate “Provide, upon request, substantive support for initiatives and other efforts of Member States of the African region towards the realization of measures of peace, arms limitation and disarmament in the region” (Resolution 40/151 G)
Thematic programmes of 2013 Peace and Security: e.g. support to UNSAC, contribution to SSR Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) Controlling the illicit trade in SALW Conventional Weapons ATT: 31 African States have signed, Nigeria has Ratified Weapons of Mass Destruction: BWC, SC Res. 1540
