Purpose of survey To evaluate insight and interest into the continuation of the PCRC collaborative To engage in reflective discussion of how to meet the needs and goals of members and stakeholders in the research process To initiate forward movement with the PCRC

1. What about your participation in the PCRC has been valuable for you? Communication and coordination Patient advocate perspectives and involvement Learning how the social worker role functions Making cross country connections with colleagues and patients Collaborative group process and creating space where everyone can participate Relationships developed and supported Opportunity to share experiences as a cancer patient and provide a voice to improve clinical outcomes
What have you learned through this experience? Gaining understanding of the complex process required for developing an organized & efficient collaborative The immense effort required to create a collaborative from the ground up Appling research principles The value of patient participation and ensuring the patient voice is heard Buy-in of all participants required for successful collaboration Gaining perspective on the state of cancer care
2. What challenges have you encountered? Unclear & shifting focus of research project Lack of communication ~ In-person ~ Technical challenges with Blue Jeans ~ Between committees/social workers/patient advocates Prioritizing important tasks of both the PCRC & committee groups Loss of momentum Getting group members to jump in and take ownership of projects Ensuring patient advocate voices were heard and incorporated Lack of clarity for over all direction of the PCRC Coordinating life/jobs/PCRC more challenging than expected
If resolved, how so? If not, what steps/actions do you think are/were needed to resolve the challenge? Mandatory check in times between PA and SW Create action plans/deadlines for important tasks & initiatives Sending out similar surveys to get feedback and then move forward with decisions Establish communication among PA’s to ensure their input into PCRC Identify needs and specific tasks to be done by committee members and/or create sub-committees Manage scheduling through “Doodle Bug” to allow for greater participation

What do you think is needed for the PCRC to move forward and successfully achieve the primary purpose of the PCRC: To conceptualize and facilitate the conduct of patient-centered research Clarification of the goals & objectives of PCRC ~ Identify a research study to complete ~ “Site specific” projects around a common theme Clear action items for committees Clarity of who wants to continue to participate Continued Patient Advocate involvement ~ With role descriptions Funding ~ Grants List from experts on what is left to complete More committee face to face time ~ Networking with key stakeholders for education, research, resources and mentoring
