  3. 3 2017 Overlee Swim Season • We want the Overlee Swim Team and School of Fish experience to be a fun, exciting and positive experience for the kids • Encourage good sportsmanship, team spirit, and respect for officials, coaches and teammates • Successful senior dinner was held on February 22 • Focus was on leadership, inclusiveness and building a cohesive team • Seniors lead spirit activities throughout the season • Discussed that drinking and drug use will not be tolerated • Positive feedback and ideas from seniors

  5. 5 Practice Policy • Practice schedule is the same as last year • Swimmers must attend 2 practices per week to be considered for Saturday Meets, Relay Carnivals, Individual Divisionals and Individual All-Stars  This requirement can be waived only at the coaches’ discretion based on extenuating circumstances. • Swimmers must attend their age group practices • Early morning make-up practices are available  Make-up practices are not geared toward specific age groups No parents are allowed on the pool deck during practice. Please do • not talk to coaches during practice. Swim Team and SoF Practice Schedule is Available at www.overlee.org

  6. 6 Equipment • Swimmers should bring the following items to every practice:  Swim cap  Clear or light colored goggles  Reflective or mirrored goggles  Fins  Water bottle • Please apply sunscreen to kids before practices

  7. 7 Swim-A-Thon • Will be held at Overlee on Saturday, June 10 • Times are assigned by age group  7 – 8 am 9-12 Age Group  8 – 9 am Seniors (13 & Over)  9 – 10 am 8U and School of Fish • This is the primary fundraiser for the swim team. All members of the Swim Team and School of Fish are encouraged to participate. • We will collect suits, caps and other swimming equipment for the Marymount Future Saints Learn-to-Swim Program serving kids of low income families in Arlington and NoVA

  8. 8 Swim Meets • Orange and White Meet (Saturday, June 17) • Monday developmental meets (5 meets - begin June 26) • Saturday meets (5 meets - begin June 24) • Divisional Relay Carnival (Wednesday, July 12 - OVL) • All-Star Relays (Wednesday, July 19 - Greenbriar) • Individual Divisionals (Saturday, July 29 - McLean) • Individual All-Stars (Saturday, Aug. 5 - Sully Station) Full Swim Team Schedule is Available at www.overlee.org

  9. 9 Orange & White Meet • First swim meet of the season; held at Overlee on Saturday, June 17 • Swimmers may swim all events and establish seed times for the upcoming season • Coaches use the times to plan for the first Saturday meet • If a swimmer can’t attend the O&W Meet, it is the swimmer’s responsibility to notify the Team Reps immediately to have the absence pre-approved by the Coaches. A make-up session will be scheduled. • If a swimmer can’t attend the O&W Meet or a make-up session, he/she will not be able to swim in a Saturday meet until seed times are established.

  10. 10 Saturday Meets • Competitive, scored meets that determine our standing in Division 1 • Fixed number of heats and limited entries • Coaches select swimmers for all Saturday Meets  Swimmers who are selected will receive an email on Thursday night and a list will also be posted in the pool breezeway on Friday morning  Swimmer availability must be confirmed ASAP on Thursday night  If a swimmer can’t attend a Saturday meet, the swimmer should notify the Team Reps immediately

  11. 11 Divisional Relay Carnival & All-Star Relays • Held on two consecutive Wednesdays in July  Division Relay Carnival – July 12  All-Star Relays – July 19 • Freestyle Relay and Medley Relay races only • Competitive, scored meets with a fixed number of entries • Coaches select swimmers • Division 1 Relay Carnival will be held at Overlee  We will need many volunteers for this meet!! • Relays are able to qualify for All-Star Relays based on their performance at Divisional Relays

  12. 12 Monday Meets • Meets held on Monday afternoon/evening with other area pools • Developmental, unscored meets • Open to all swim team members • Swimmers are awarded place and competitor ribbons • Times are recorded

  13. 13 Parent Volunteers • Parent volunteers make the summer swim season possible!! • It takes over 40 volunteers to run each meet; this does not include volunteers for social activities and other team events • Sign-Up Genius is used to register for volunteer positions • Timers, Marshals, Runners, Water for Volunteers • Sign-Ups are available NOW on the overlee.org website • Many of the volunteer positions have been filled – THANK YOU!! BUT . . .

  14. 14 Open Volunteer Positions • There are several positions for which we still need volunteers:  Sound/AV (sound and AV support for Monday and Saturday meets and some pep rallies)  School of Fish Rep  Table Verifier for Saturday Meets  Swim-A-Thon Food Set-Up/Helpers  Water and Gatorade for Saturday Meets  Tents for Away Meets  Divisional and All-Star Relay Car Pool Coordinator  All-Star Relay Order Coordinator (Caps/Shirts/Programs)  Volunteers for Divisional Relays  Volunteers for July 4th and OVL 60 th Events

  15. 15 Registration • We are targeting Monday, March 20 at 10 a.m. to open registration Email announcement will be sent o Registration link on www.overlee.org under the “Swim Team” o section • Indicate if your swimmer will miss any Saturday meets or Divisional or All-Star meets • Registration will close on April

  16. 16 Dues • Dues will be $160; $5 off for second swimmer; $10 off for each swimmer after the second swimmer • Dues cover:  Team T-Shirt  Non-personalized latex cap  White T-Shirt for pep rally • During registration you can purchase: • Personalized latex ($7) and silicone caps ($14) – Two cap minimum for personalized caps • Team Photo ($18) • Personalized Towel ($33) Swimmers Cannot Swim in O&W Meet Unless Dues are Paid in Full

  17. 17 Personalized Towels and Caps • Swimmers are encouraged to order personalized caps to wear at practices and meets • Deadline for ordering is April 15

  18. 18 Team Suits • Available now for purchase at Sport Fair (5010 Lee Hwy) • Suits are made by Nike. Prices are: • Male Jammer: $46 • Male Brief: $40 • Female Suit (2 styles): $69 • Sport Fair staff will apply orange Overlee logo on the suit • Team suits are not required

  19. 19 Merchandise Exciting new merchandise will be available for 2017, including: Personalized Towels Lacrosse Shorts Water bottles Windbreakers Fleece tops PJ pants Lacrosse shorts Visors Trucker Hats Running Hats Long-sleeve shirts Pinnies The majority of the merchandise will be available through an on-line ordering system Magnets, flags, hats, visors, lax shorts and water bottles will be sold at the meets

  20. 20 Swim Team • Swim team members must meet the following minimum standards:  Completion of 25 meters of Freestyle – head-first starts and side breathing are required  Completion of 25 meters of Backstroke – swimmer must remain on their back for entire length of pool and finish on their back  For both freestyle and backstroke, swimmer must maintain a horizontal body position at all times, swim the entire length of the pool without stopping, and may not stand, grab and/or pull on the lane lines.  1 minute treading water with head above the water surface  9 and older – basic mechanics of Breaststroke and Butterfly • Swimmers who do not meet these standards will be invited to join SOF or take lessons

  21. 21 School of Fish • Provides more individualized instruction for emerging swimmers who are age 5 to 8 as of June 1 • For safety reasons, School of Fish swimmers must meet the following minimum standards:  Completion of 25 meters of Freestyle  Completion of 25 meters of Backstroke  1 minute treading water with head above water surface • A dive, jump or start from in the water are permitted • There are no time standards for School of Fish • Coaches will be focused on moving swimmers from SOF to Swim Team when they meet the Swim Team standards • Swimmers who do not meet these standards will be invited to take swim lessons

  22. 22 School of Fish • School of Fish swimmers participate in the Swim-A-Thon • School of Fish will have their own mini-meet against an area pool • School of Fish swimmers participate in the All-Overlee Challenge Meet • School of Fish swimmers are invited to participate in all Swim Team social events • An official School of Fish Team Photo will be taken
