  2. During this session, you will: Demonstrate an understanding of the purpose of a piece of text Consider how writers communicate the meaning of a piece of text

  3. Understanding the Purpose of a text Look at the whole text Read the text and consider… Decide who the text has been written for

  4. How writers communicate meaning What is the purpose of the text? What it tells the readers (fact, opinion, advice, evidence etc.). How does the way the text is written help it to achieve its purpose?

  5. Group Activity You will now break out into groups and read the text, before completing the questions together.

  6. Be test ready! Don’t make assumptions about a writer’s purpose. You must find evidence in the text to support your ideas, for example, in the way that ideas and information are presented. For top marks, you need to do more than just say what techniques the writer has used, You must also explain how they help to convey the meaning of the text to the reader.
