What can you obtain from this course Which model is this course based on? • It is based on Eric Berne’s Transactional Analysis in – terms of theory and methodology theory – T ransactional analysis is a personality theory and a systemic psychotherapy for the growth and change of people and organizations (ITAA-International Transactional Analysis Association) 6

What is Organizational Transactional Analysis • The organizational field of specialization is for professionals working in or for organizations, focusing on business structures and contexts to promote development and change, if needed. The intent is to strengthen growth and increase the effectiveness • and efficiency of persons acting within organizations and therefore of organizations themselves. 7

  8. Why Transactional Analysis? Because it is a theory that allows for concurrent • intrapsychic and interpsychic interpretation In other words, it correlates what we tell ourselves inside with – what we say to each other – Transactional Analysis is a flexible theory that can be correlated and integrated with other innovative approaches, such as current lines of neuroscience research This is why the course has a multidisciplinary approach – 8

Planning your training course It is a three-year course In the first year there will be : ‒ 8 two-day workshops (held on Saturdays and Sundays) In the second and third years there will be : ‒ 7 two-day workshops (held on Saturdays and Sundays) ‒ attendance of the Annual Transactional Analysis conference organized by SIMPAT (Italian Society of Psychotherapy Methodologies and Transactional Analysis) ‒ End-of-year examination and assessment at the end of each year 10

The contents include : 1 st year: Basic Transactional Analysis and links with other approaches – 2 nd year: Organizational Transactional Analysis and links with other – approaches – 3 rd year: Practice and professional supervision NB: every trainee must have at least 80% attendance for the academic year to be considered completed 11

  12. 1 st Year contents I.session : “TA Philosophy” The key paradigms of Transactional Analysis and the basic assumptions underpinning the theory. How TA is applied to the organizational field. What ethics can be inferred from the theory itself. ( Eric Berne’s background, Okness, fields of intervention, the EATA code of ethics ) trainer: Daniela Cannavale II. session : “How does our mind work?” How individuals function psychologically. The origin of their feelings, thoughts and behaviour. How to link individual functioning to the life of an organization. ( Ego States, structural analysis and functional analysis, Ego State diagnosis, structural pathology of Ego states, Egogram ) trainer: Daniela Cannavale 12

  13. 1 st Year contents III.session : “How do we communicate?” What happens when two people communicate? Are there any tools to make this communication clear and satisfactory for both? What can we do in case of communication difficulties? (Transactions, communication rules, Karpman’s options) trainer: Marina Farina IV.session : “Recognition of oneself and others” Why is external feedback so important? Which type of recognition do we need and which do we want to avoid? Ways of influencing our inner attitude in our relationship with others. (Types of recognition, Steiner’s stroke economy, McKenna’s stroking profile, existential positions) trainer: Marina Farina 13

(The contract as a TA tool and attitude, contracting techniques and requirements, contract levels, three-handed contracts, multiple contracts and contract setting, psychological distances ) trainer : Daniela Cannavale VI. session: “ Why does this always happen to me?” Is our history repeating itself sometimes? Do we have regular tendencies in tackling life and relations with others? Which tools can help us understand and follow the development and growth of a person, even within organizations? Conflict dynamics and ways of managing them. (Berne’s basic hungers, time structuring, the concept of Autonomy, the theory of games, Karpman’s drama triangle, Sills’ and Hargaden’s relational perspective of games, games in organizations) trainer: Daniela Cannavale II. session : “Dependent or Independent?” Some interpersonal relations seem negative but sometimes last for many years: how come? What are the causes of pathological interpersonal situations and what can we do to change them? (Discounting and symbiosis, passive behaviour, redefinition, the Schiff’s discount matrix) trainer: Marina Farina 16

Our beliefs about people and ourselves can become a self- fulfilling prophecy. (Bandura and self-efficacy, sources of self-efficacy, limiting beliefs and how to overcome them ) trainer: Pierpaolo Peretti Griva IV. session : “How do we manage our feelings?” The racket system is a self-reinforcing distorted system of feelings, thoughts and behaviour kept up by people following their scripts. (Erskine&Zalcman). Awareness of any part of this system marks the beginning of its change. Learning to be in touch with reality through genuine feelings not only helps you start changing your script, but also boosts your immediate problem-solving skills. Personal needs within the group and their impact on its functioning. Leadership within the group ( the group according to Berne, the group and Ego States, the Ego States of the group according to P . Clarkson) . Trainers: Enzo Papalia (1 st day) and Marina Farina (2 nd day) VI.session : “Mindfulness and organizational well-being” Meditation and some yoga practices can help improve the efficiency of our mind and our balance. Meditation exercises. The benefits of mindfulness used in organizations. (Jon Kabat-Zinn and his medical research, awareness as a basis for our balance, energy levels, “killer” thoughts and how to defuse them) trainer: Marco Poggi 18
