Reasons to Choose Oakgrove Sixth Form Exam Success We have a history of sustained success at A Level • Our students now consistently achieve over 50% of all A Level grades at A*-B grades • Last year 90% of our leavers achieved at least 3 A levels or Equivalent (national 81%) • Almost 100% retention rate – we look after our students • 100% of our 2017 leavers continued in Education, Employment or Training • Over a third of our 2017 University leavers accepted a place at a Russell Group University

Reasons to Choose Oakgrove Sixth Form Excellent Pastoral Support All students have the support of a mentor who is the first port of call for any issues Heads of Year provide additional support and are based in the Common Room Subject Specialist Teachers backed up by an extremely knowledgeable team of Support Staff Individual Academic Monitoring We support all students at all levels to ensure they have strategies, targets and support to meet their individual potential

A Level and BTEC Reform – pg 4 in the Prospectus • We have been going through a transitional period in Level 3 education… • A Levels have been decoupled from AS levels – now the emphasis is on a 2 year linear course with exams all taken at the end of the course • There is less coursework within the A Levels • BTECs are now 52% externally assessed (either by written examination or with exam board marked coursework)

Oakgrove Sixth Form Offer • Designed to maximise your position at the end of your two years in Oakgrove Sixth Form – setting you up for progression to HE or employment • Students will complete three Level 3 courses across their two years in Sixth Form, with some completing a fourth if this is appropriate for them – Allowing for a greater depth of study in your chosen courses • We offer a Level 3 Curriculum with – increased teaching time – dedicated support for study periods – an extended induction period Meaning you have the best possible opportunity to succeed

Choosing Your Level 3 Courses • Pick three Level 3 courses; a maximum of one from each block • Entry requirements = seven 9-4 passes (or equivalent) including at least a Grade 4 in English Language and Mathematics plus any subject specific requirements • Applications need to be returned by 2 nd February 2018 NB: GCSE English Language and Mathematics - Any Student who does not hold a Grade 5 will need to resit the relevant GCSE – nb: both can be selected in either block A or block D leaving 3 blocks for students to choose their Level 3 courses from

Advice on Choosing Courses • Choose courses that suit your strengths / abilities / interests and that you think you’ll be successful in. • Think about the mix of subjects you are picking – certain combinations are desirable and support each other. • Check how the courses will be assessed – coursework/exams. • Think about your desired career path (do some research) you might be surprised as to the requirements you need.

Advice on Choosing Courses • Take advice from parents, teachers and friends but make sure this is your decision – Level 3 courses are hard enough, you need to be motivated to succeed. • Keep an open mind – things can change even on results day! • Check if there are any additional entry requirements for the courses you want to study… • Be aspirational, but have a back-up plan that you have fully researched to fall back on if required.
