Nutrient content in manure Tapio Salo MTT Tallinn 7-8. April 2014 11.4.2014 1
Nutrient content in manure • Standards/balances • Calculated from feeding and production leading to exctretion in manure • Good for regulations • Analysis • Manure sampled before the application • Shows the effect of specific conditions, like feeding, litter, use of water, ammonia losses etc. • Good for fertiliser planning, not so good for regulations
Eurostat activity • Meeting in the end of March • Material, Intro in CIRCA , address • NP excretion figures should be comparable between the states, when used in nutrient balance calculations etc. • Current state of factors • Recommendations, how to calculate? • Databases… • Agrotechnology atlas • Reports and projects • Baltic manure • Database (analysis)
Situation in Finland • Manure analysis made every 5th year (Nitrate decree) • Statistics collected for the main manure types • Table values available • Excretion values calculated based on feeding and production by animal production scientists for the purposes of greenhouse gas emissions, nutrient balances and environmental permits • New project started on this spring for developing the manure nutrient content calculation (Sari Luostarinen et al., funded by Finnish Ministry of Environment)
Situations in other countries • Denmark • Detailed handbook of manure nutrient contents based on feeding, production, stables, storage, field applications etc. • No analysis used for control or regulations
