What are district residents being asked to approve? Increase in property tax to raise local funding for the following initiatives: • School safety • Student enrollment growth • Technology • Textbooks • Student organizations and programs Proposed tax increase of 49 cents per $100 of assessed property value
Why is this needed? • E nrollment increases across the district during the past seven years have put a strain on personnel and classroom resources • District cannot hire additional teachers authorized through the annual unit count • School safety personnel are funded through local funds • Additional funding is needed for technology and textbook upgrades • Funding is needed to assist student organizations and programs

What has the district done to save money? • School, curriculum and Board of E ducation budgets reduced by 30 percent • District office and personnel budgets reduced by 50 percent • Outdoor E ducation Center at Ingram Pond program discontinued pending availability of funding • District-sponsored travel curtailed for 2016-17 • Director, assistant superintendent, principal and two assistant principal positions left vacant • Teaching and paraprofessional positions authorized through unit count being left vacant

Technology • Computer/ tablet replacement • SMART board replacement • Switch expansion/ replacement • Software license upgrades E stimated cost: $450,000
Textbooks Textbook purchases related to increased enrollment • E nglish language arts • Math • Social studies • Science • Art, music, dance and theater E stimated cost: $300,000
Student Organizations • Funding for student clubs such as Odyssey of the Mind, HOSA, BPA, FF A, robotics and Math League • Band and athletic uniforms E stimated cost: $150,000

Who is E ligible to Vote? • Indian River School District residents who are U.S. citizens and at least 18 years of age. • Voter registration is not required. • Proof of identification and residency is required to vote. • Absentee ballots available by mail until noon on November 18 and in person until noon on November 21 Affidavits available at all district schools.
