What happens with ‘value’ in evidence based policy? • Empirical research: causality-doxa => Event: limited in time habits, conservation,… (clock time embedded time) => Isolation of an event => de-contextualizing culture (to measure to experience) => value becomes function (systemic) (Boomkens : ‘Sex is reduced to reproduction’) => survey/interview: reduction of values to cognitive/(self-)reflexive competences • To measure is not to know To measure is to give sense in a specific way = culture – producing a culture • No evidence for evidence based research • WE NEED TO STUDY CULTURE AS A SENSEMAKING PROCESS
