  2. Basic information. Goals and objectives of the project The intelligent transport system is a complex of interconnected automated systems, that solve the tasks of managing traffic, monitoring and controlling the operation of all types of transport and informing all road users. The main goal of ITS is to increase the capacity of streets, create a comfortable environment for movement, increase safety and improve the ecological situation. For Astana, ITS was selected with a full adaptive control mode, providing for synchronized adjustment of the operation mode of traffic lights every 3 seconds, based on the collection, analysis and processing of the current traffic situation data obtained by means of traffic detection. Main Tasks 1. Uniform distribution of the load on the road network 2. Optimization of control of traffic lights 3. Reducing the road accidents (reducing conflict points) 4. Reducing environmental stress 5. Improving the accuracy of public transport schedules 6. Increased demand for public transport 2

  3. Intelligent Transport System ITS Infrastructure composition of the system Video detectors Radar detectors Traffic light Information board objects Effect of ITS implementation: 1. Traffic speed increased by 18%; 2. Throughput increased by 40%; 3. Average journey time reduced by 20%. Current situation: Of the 475 traffic light objects (hereinafter - TLO) in the city, 110 are currently covered. Plans for 2019-2021: By the end of 2019, 31 TLO will be additionally covered (in total, will be 141 TLO with ITS). I stage (by 2014 ) As part of the development of 3th stages, another 118 TLO will be II stage (by 2018) connected to the ITS system (that is, until the end of 2021, the ITS III stage (by the end of 2021) system will cover 259 TLO). as part of road construction 3

  4. ITS project consists of several subsystems System of adaptive control of traffic lights . Controlled crossroads are equipped with special  equipment for detection of traffic flows and connection with central software installed on the servers of the traffic control center. Main purpose of the adaptive control of traffic lights is optimization of traffic for reduction of traffic delays. During the management of traffic signalization, traffic flow is registered in all directions of crossroad including adjacent crossroads. Driver informing system . Installation of information boards and variable information signs.  Traffic control system of public transport . Equipping city buses with onboard traffic control,  video surveillance and passenger counting equipment as well as TFT and Led monitors. Passenger informing system . Installation of information boards at stopping points of public  transport, development of mobile applications for smart phones and website with opportunity to choose a necessary route. System of video surveillance of crossroads . Equipping 30 crossroads with mobile and fixed  cameras for visual analysis of traffic situation and making proposals for improvement of traffic management.

  5. Electronic System of Fare Payment The main objectives of electronic system of fare payment To provide a flexible tariff policy to improve attractiveness of public transport;  To implement a unified ticket system for all means of public transport in the  capital; To generate an accurate statistics on passenger flow distribution;  To arrange the route network effectively.  Advantages for public transport passengers Convenience: no need for keeping cash and coins to pay; • Reduction of cash thefts; • Expansion in the number of travel ticket points of sale and the types of travel tickets; • Opportunity to recover customized cards; • Flexible tariff policy providing cheaper fare for long-term travel tickets. •

  6. Dedicated Bus Lane for Bus Traffic Introduction of this project will facilitate solving such problems as: downtime of public transport in traffic  congestions; delays in public transport schedules;  failure to comply with traffic intervals and  running schedule; complex public transport management in  traffic flow; lack of traffic priority.  to regulate running times;  to reduce schedule violations;  to improve the discipline of bus drivers;  to improve road safety;  to increase an average bus speed by 20%. 

  7. Transportation Traffic Control Centre Main purpose is to monitor and oversee operation of the drivers in real time Implementation of the Traffic Control System will solve the problems as follows: delay of the bus causing congestion of buses;  violation of the time interval of buses causing competition between bus  drivers;

  8. Light Rail Transport (LRT) The main objectives of the projects are following: to establish a new modern urban transport system  with high carrying capacity; to reduce negative consequences of high level of  car ownership; to reduce traffic jams and congestions.  improvement of passenger service level;  increase in share of public transport;  reduction of passenger travel time;  increase of average speed of vehicles;  reduction of the level of car ownership;  obtaining a tool for adequate city development  planning.

  9. Smart Bus Stops This project was started 4 years ago;  Temperature control. Heated bus stop  in winter and with air conditioning in summer ; Available free Wi-Fi inside;  Installed video camera;  There are traffic patterns on the wall. 
