  6. What is the timeline for these reforms? • The new GCSEs in English and maths will be available for first teaching from September 2015 with exams in 2017, graded 9-1. • All other subjects will be available for first teaching from September 2016 with the first exams in 2018, graded 9-1. 8. Assessing progress – flight paths. • Progress updates 3 times per year - exams • One progress update will be the annual report • Grades will be split into sub-grades for fine level reporting e.g. 4 = solidly working at grade 4 4.3 = working towards the top end of grade 4 4.7 = working just below grade 5 boundary Geoff Robinson Deputy Headteacher - ACHIEVE @ Sedgefield

  9. Assessing progress – similar students. Average Grade End of Year Expected Student Grade End of Year of Similar Subject Grade With Traffic Lighting Subject Expected Grade Student Grade Students English 4 2.7 English 4 2.7 2.7 Maths 4 3 Maths 4 3 2.7 4 sub-grades Science 4 3.3 Science 4 3.3 3.3 However the below achievement expected Geography 4 4 Geography 4 4 3.7 is in line with the average History 4 2.3 History 4 2.3 3 Computing 4 2.7 Computing 4 2.7 2.7 French 4 2 French 4 2 2 Geoff Robinson Deputy Headteacher - ACHIEVE @ Sedgefield

  10. 3. Assessing without levels – ensuring progress. The system is designed to tell teachers, students and parents exactly how well a child is learning and exactly what they need to do to get better. By tracking what each student has learned we build one coherent picture of their knowledge from which to guide teaching and learning. There are no vague levels, just clear guidance on how to make even more progress. Geoff Robinson Deputy Headteacher - ACHIEVE @ Sedgefield

  11. 4. Key Stage 4 pathway choices. In addition to the introduction of demanding traditional style GCSEs there is also an expectation for all students to study particular subjects. The intention is to provide students with a broad curriculum that is also highly academic. Year 8 will take part in the key stage 4 pathway choices process at the same time as year 9 in early 2015. Year 7 will do the same next year in 2016. This will enable them to have 3 full years Geoff Robinson Deputy Headteacher - ACHIEVE @ Sedgefield studying and adapting to the new GCSEs.
