  1. NBI Overview

  2. NBI Overview • NBI is committed to future-proofing internet access in rural Ireland , using fibre technologies to enable a truly limitless connected society and economy for generations to come. • Fibre broadband uses fibre optics cables to deliver data to businesses and homes. Fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) connections that can deliver lighting fast speeds of up to 1,000Mbps (1GB). • Eliminating Ireland’s digital divide , promising to deliver life-changing infrastructure that will be the platform to empower nearly 1.1million people who have remained underserved in the provision of full modern telecommunication services. • Making its services available to 100% of the NBP’s Intervention Area, which accounts for 23% of the population – in about approximately 536,000 homes, farms, schools and businesses. The intervention or rollout area only applies in places which are deemed ‘Amber’ in DCCAEs broadband.gov.ie map • Building and operating its ultrafast network on an independent wholesale open-access basis

  3. NBP – Critical Infrastructure • NBP’s comparable effect will be equivalent to rural electrification • Key role in sustaining rural Ireland and more remote communities • Enabling remote working, e-health initiatives, online education, job creation, agri-tech, access to e-government facilities, tourism benefits • Growth in SMEs, new start-ups & entrepreneurship • Increased social inclusion and digital literacy through community hub • NBP is part of Ireland’s Climate Action Plan – helping reduce fossil fuel consumption

  4. Technology overview Year 1 Product Catalogue ● NBI will deploy the latest fibre to the home technology Bitstream/VUA known as XGS-PON technology. 150Mb ● Minimum broadband speeds of 150Mbps available from year 1 300Mb ● NBI have committed to increase the minimum 1,000Mb (1Gbps) broadband speeds for customers over the life of the contract Symmetric Ethernet Services ● Minimum speeds of 300Mbps by Year 5 and 500Mbsp by Year 10 1Gbps ● Business customers can avail of symmetrical products e.g. 200Mbps, 1Gbps, 5Gbps and 10Gbps available from 5Gbps year 1 10Gbps 4

  5. Broadband Deployment ● We will deploy 74,000km of new fibre during our deployment phase, passing the premises ● We estimate 90% of our network deployment will be overhead and 10% underground ● Our Network will be rolled out by utilising existing eir & enet infrastructure (existing poles & ducts) ● This will reduce the amount of new construction required in each county ● Only 12% of deployment of the network will involve new construction (of poles and ducts) OLT locations Point of Hand-off locations 5

  6. High-level design for Limerick county 1 2 3 • The picture above gives a high level design view of the quantity of routes and fibre required to connect all 21,024 premises in Limerick. This equates to over a fifth of all premises in the county. While the NBI network will traverse through all the county, it will only connect in the rollout area.

  7. High-level design for Limerick county • Limerick county has 21,024 premises in the Intervention area – representing 22% of all premises in the county • These are serviced from 9 network nodes (yellow dots) – 5 of which are based in Limerick county (yellow dots) • Core hub sites (green) will be deployed first and the other network nodes are linked with fibre back to these (orange)

  8. High-level design for Limerick county • The first deployment area in Limerick will be surveyed in the coming weeks & built in Q3/Q4 2020. • 4Site and Enet – both Limerick based companies – will carry out surveying works on behalf of NBI • The other deployment areas to follow will be designed/started once all the surveying results are collated

  9. High-level design for Limerick First surveying area in the coming weeks will cover 3,425 premises in the townlands around Limerick city includareas such as Clarina, Parteen, Lisnagry & Mungret

  10. Broadband Connection Points Nine Broadband Connection Points (BCPs) will be accessible to the public for free high speed internet access in 2020. These will all be in the roll-out area & includes locations in Mungret, Bruff, Abbeyfeale & Cappamore. BCP locations include schools, GAA halls, community centres & enterprise hubs. Those who live in the rollout area can use these facilities for many of their digital needs inc. remote working, making online payments or online applications, contacting family or friends and partaking in new courses etc These locations are all available online at www. nbi.ie/broadband-connections-points

  11. Engaging with the Community Local Communities Stakeholders Authorities • Town Hall Events • BBOs • IFA • Roadshows • County managers • ICA • Public Participation • Planners • Age Action Networks • Council members • Macra na Feirme • Sporting & other • Local Enterprise Offices • IBEC associations (GAA, • An Garda Síochána • Regional development Soccer, Bridge Clubs) bodies • Broadband Champions • Chambers of Commerce & Ambassadors • Muintir na Tíre • An Post • Engagement with the local communities and stakeholders is a key focus for NBI • Advertising in local press and radio will be complimented by engaging directly with the community via town hall events, roadshows and interaction with local associations
