MPIG Minimum Practice Income Guarantee (aka Correction factor)
What is the MPIG? Difference in funding between pre-2003 and 2004 contracts. Egton Surgery MPIG = £70 000pa Danby Surgery MPIG = £60 000pa Total MPIG for Esk Valley practices (inc Sleights, Sandsend and Staithes) = £182 00pa From April 2014, this will start to disappear.
MPIG changes Govt will remove 1/7 th of the MPIG from each surgery every year for next 7 years. So in 7 years time Egton and Danby surgeries will have £130 000 pa less than at present. This represent ¼- 1/3 of our NHS income This is likely to result in huge cuts to primary care services.
How MPIG changes might affect local services? Largest expense of any organisation is staff Doctor numbers will need to be reduced Services will be reduced- e.g. we currently provide services such as audiometry, acupunture, minor surgery but time pressures may cause these to be reduced Patients may need to travel further to access care
Effects of MPIG reduction Patients will need to wait longer to access care Home visiting will occur less frequently If there are not radical changes, e.g. practice mergers, practice viability is threatened. Radical changes will affect accessibility and availability of services Centralisation of services is more likely.
Services provided in Egton and Danby surgeries GP consultations Physiotherapy Nurse consultations Chiropody Phlebotomy Midwifery ECGs Audiometry Chronic disease management Palliative care meetings Acute disease management Chronic disease management meetings Drug use counselling Minor surgery Dispensing Joint and soft tissue injections Local delivery of medications to patients Counselling Teaching CCG participation Health visiting Botton Village Home visiting RAF Fylingdales Hospital input
The future Uncertain Medical services will diminish slowly cf. hospital situation Succession will become an issue in Egton and Danby
