COUNTY PROGRAMS: Montgomery County Infants and Toddlers Program (MCITP) MCITP provides early intervention services to assist families with their efforts to address their children's developmental and special needs. MCITP serves families with children between birth and the beginning of the school year following the fourth birthday. Families and early intervention providers work as a team to define priorities, learn about available resources and discuss the child's strengths and needs. Early intervention services are provided in the child's natural environment (home and community settings where a child is during the day). The following may be provided based on each individual child's and family’s needs : • • Assistive Technology Physical therapy • • Audiology Psychological testing • • Interpreting Services for visual impairment • • Family counseling Services for hearing impairment • • Family support Social work • • Family training Special instruction • • Nursing Speech/language therapy • • Nutritional counseling Transportation • Occupational therapy

COUNTY PROGRAMS: Developmental Evaluation Services for Children (DESC) Evaluating preschool children, ages three through five years old, to determine eligibility for special education services Observe student in community child care and preschool settings. Assist IEP teams in recommending special education services in the least restrictive environment; leading a multidisciplinary team of an occupational therapist, speech/language pathologist, and school psychologist Monitor data to ensure compliance with legal mandates associated with special education identification.

COUNTY PROGRAMS: Child Find All children with disabilities residing in Montgomery County, including Children with disabilities who are homeless children, and children with disabilities attending private schools, regardless of the severity of their disability, and who are in need of special education and related services, are identified, located, and evaluated by Montgomery County Public Schools. Birth to Kindergarten: The Child Find unit provides free developmental screenings for children from three years of age until kindergarten. It is also the single point of entry for families moving into Montgomery County whose preschool-age child was previously identified with a disability. Nonresident families with a developmental concern about their child who attends a preschool or childcare center located in Montgomery County may also contact the Child Find unit. Parents of children between birth and three years of age should contact Montgomery County Infants and Toddlers Program to request evaluation if they have concerns about their child's development (240-777-3997.) Kindergarten to Age 21: Parents of students in kindergarten through age 21 should contact their neighborhood school to request evaluation.

COUNTY PROGRAMS: Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHOH) Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHOH) Program provides comprehensive programs and services for children from birth through high school graduation who have an educationally significant hearing loss. Goals • Provide programming from birth through high school graduation following the Common Core State Standards • Provide appropriate instruction in the least restrictive environment while addressing critical language and communication needs • Provide communication options • Total Communication • Cued Speech • Auditory/Oral • Provide related services • Meet the varied needs of a multicultural and diverse population • Promote parent and community involvement

  7. COUNTY PROGRAMS: Psychological Services School psychologists ensure that every child learns in a safe, healthy and supportive environment. They are school-based mental health professionals trained in both psychology and education. Psychological services are available to all students. School psychologists use many different approaches to provide these core services: consultation, assessment, intervention, prevention, education, research and planning, and health care provision. They tailor their services to the particular needs of each child and each situation. School psychologists actively seek information about the results of their efforts and how they benefit students by research. They evaluate the effectiveness of academic programs, behavior management systems, and other services so as to generate new knowledge about learning and behavior. They use the results of their research to help schools continue to improve. School psychologists focus on health care provision through collaboration with school and community-based personnel. They advocate for a comprehensive model of school-linked health services that will provide access to community supports and emphasize psychosocial wellness and health-related issues. They foster partnerships with parents and teachers to create healthy safe and supportive school environments.

  8. COUNTY PROGRAMS: School Plant Operation (SPO) • The mission of the SPO training team is to provide training programs for building service team members on proper building and equipment maintenance; healthy and effective cleaning processes; workplace safety and compliance; as well as developing leadership skills to guarantee that all SPO employees are fully prepared to provide high quality building services that will support the success of every student. Trainings Schedule: • Basic Skills - Certifies employees in basic cleaning procedures in accordance to MCPS policies to ensure best practices. Must be taken before obtaining permanent status with MCPS. • Supervision and Leadership - provides current and potential supervisors with the tools needed to become better leaders and managers of the SPO team.
