Maintaining and further development of HELCOM AIS The outcome from Helcom questionnaire 2019 Agenda Item 4
Questionnaire on the status of national AIS • Background – Distributed to the HELCOM RS participating States in May 2019 – Replied all (7), except Germany and Lithuania • Objective – Technical capabilities of national AIS systems – Improvements needed – Annexes to the RS Technical manual – Vi tar ansvar for sjøvegen
The Outcome • Different volumes of the provided information. • Some questions were not answered, or answered partially • Various technical solutions are implemented and maintained. • Data buffering and retransmission is mainly based on the NPR capabilities – Vi tar ansvar for sjøvegen
AIS status: summary (I) Coverage: various distances, a full coverage of the coastline AIS messages received/transmitted: in general, the networks are capable to all AIS standard messages. Transmission capabilities – various; (x) Data throughput: various rates reported (from “real time” to “1700 msg/sec”) (x) Data storing by AIS servers: various solutions (from 30 days to several years) (x) – Vi tar ansvar for sjøvegen
AIS status: summary (I) Data filtering capabilities: Supported by all systems, but the solutions are various (x) Outgoing data down-sampling: except for one system, the outgoing data can be down-sampled and the down-sampling rate is configurable (x) Data buffering: Mainly rely on the NPR capabilities (x) Buffered data storing: Detailed reply from one Member (up to 1 month) (x) – Vi tar ansvar for sjøvegen
AIS status: summary (I) Buffered data retransmission: Detailed reply from one Member (retransmission by NPR) (x) Data resending priority: Detailed reply from one Member (FIFO) (x) Data storing/archiving: various solutions and terms (x) (from 30 days “indefinite”) Provision of stored/archived data: is supported, but in different formats (x) Installation of multiple NPRs: is possible for all – Vi tar ansvar for sjøvegen
AIS status: summary (I) The service contingency plans: implemented by all, except one Member BSs/servers/NPRs/ network monitoring: implemented by all Back-up servers: available for all 24/7 technical support: is available for all, except one Member – Vi tar ansvar for sjøvegen
Conclusions • The provided information allows to assess AIS data flow towards the regional AIS server and the improvements needed. • To clarify the remaining or partially answered questions, Norway (1) will contact Members individually. (x) (1) host of the Helcom server – Vi tar ansvar for sjøvegen
