  13. The business is successful in growing market share and its customer base, but manufacturing capacity started to become an issue. Restricted by their current production site foot print and with no real option to move in the near future, the business needed to increase production output to match the growing demand. Following Mark Knowlton’s initial onsite diagnostic, the discussion with the MD resulted in a series internal workshops focused on the implementation of Lean manufacturing principles. 3 project teams were formed and each created a value stream map. From this, the teams were given guidance to designed new workflows, apply 5S principles and implemented visual controls resulting in an increase in capacity and improved workflow. Improved factory layout resulted in Capacity increase to meet growing sales demand www.locateinkent.com

  14. This small award-winning food business is punching above its weight and has gained a significant following of loyal customers. The major challenge for the business was understanding how to match the growth in demand with its current operational capacity. The initial training workshop with the owners identifying unbalanced work flow and a bottleneck in the baking area. Quick wins were to relocate the rolling machine and some of the ingredients to reduce none value added activity. Investment in new ovens followed to remove the next bottleneck process. Improved workflow – bottleneck processes identified to highlight investment priorities www.locateinkent.com

  15. Operationally the business was performing well, however, the initial onsite diagnostic still uncovered opportunities to improve team communication and delivery performance. The cold store and food preparation area were run by two separate teams with operational challenges around communication and workflow. The teams from both areas were brought together and involved in the Lean team building workshop programme which started with an interactive team development session. Following on from this the Lean training workshop culminated in projects to relay out the cold store to reduce waste. The second project , kicked off at the final session scoped out new Key Performance Indicators for the business. Reduced waste with improved team communication and workflow www.locateinkent.com

  16. This business has grown from strength to strength, with Kentish oils and condiments sitting along side the successful Kent crisps brand. Oil seed rape was processed at a small inefficient unit in Wood church. Due to growing demand there was a need to consolidate the business on one new site. It was necessary to establish that the new processing equipment would be able to process the volume of oil seed required. Mark Knowlton worked with the company to map their current process flows, establish projected plant capacity and helped the business transition to its new facility. The move to new modern premises enabled improved workflow and increased capacity with the introduction of a new processing lines. Relocation to new site with new oil seed rape processing line to meet growing demand www.locateinkent.com
