LED LIGHTING IN DUBAI GENERAL PROJECTS DEPARTMENT DUBAI MUNICIPALITY
EMIRATE OF DUBAI:
OBJECTIVE AND VISION: LIGHTING PEOPLE DUBAI - Maintaining People Safety - Creating - Providing Advanced Lighting An Excellent And Smart City & Security Solutions - Improving Performance - Providing Comfortable And - Increasing Sustainability Sustainable Living - Reducing Carbon Foot - Saving Resources Print
OUTDOOR LIGHTING APPLICATION: • Street lighting • Roadway lighting • Parks and Community Facilities • Parking lots • City Landscaping • Residential and Commercial Buildings • Pedestrian and Bicycling Pathways
PURPOSE OF OUTDOOR LIGHTING: • Provide a safe and secure environment at night. • Extend the use of parks and walkways into the night. • To enhance historic/notable features • To enhance travel on the roads and at intersections.
DUBAI GREEN BUILDING REGULATION – OUTDOOR LIGHTING POWER DENSITY: Maximum Watts per square Building Area meter or linear meter Uncovered parking lots and drives 1.6 W/m² Walkways less than 3 meters wide 3.3 W/linear meter Walkways 3 meters wide or greater 2.2 W/m² Outdoor Stairways 10.8 W/m² Main entries 98 W/linear meter of door width Other doors 66 W/linear meter of door width Open sales areas (including vehicle sales lots) 5.4 W/m² - 2.2 W/m² for each illuminated wall or surface (or) Building Facades -16.4 W/linear meter for each illuminated wall or surface length Entrances and gatehouse inspection stations at 13.5 W/m² guarded facilities Drive-up windows at fast food restaurants 400 W per drive-through Lighting Power Densities for exterior areas not listed in Table 502.05 (1) should be no greater than those values given in ASHRAE 90.1-2007 Table 9.4.5or equivalent as approved by DEWA.

Guidelines for Specifying LED Lighting Solution for Projects : - A LED luminaire consists of the following: • LED modules, ballast or driver where applicable, • Heat-sink for thermal management, • Fixture and optics assembly - LED lighting type should be identified in the projects. • Self-ballasted type. (direct connection to supply mains) • Non-self-ballasted (required separate driver for supply mains connection) - LED modules replacement/upgrading possibility within the luminaire without replacing the whole luminaire/fixture. - Adequate ingress protection (IP) rating of the LED luminaire should be prescribed for the intended application under specific environmental conditions. ( IEC 60529) - Optics (lens, diffuser or reflector) considering that Well-designed optics will reduce optical losses and help improve the luminaire efficacy. - Type of driver to power and control LED lighting ( IEC 62384)
- LED lighting should have well-designed thermal management provisions to ensure LED junction temperature be maintained within design limit. - Maximum allowable ambient temperature for the LED lighting should be considered, so that it can operate without affecting its life or colour stability. (30-45 deg C) - Life and lumen maintenance, change in light output of a light source over operational life, relative to initially measured light output • L70 = time to 70% of original light output at XX% of operational hours • L50 = time to 50% of original light output at XX% of operational hours
