Lead Us Not Into Temptation Lead Us Not Into Temptation The Sixth Petition
Why would God ever lead us into temptation? Why would God ever lead us into temptation? God is not the one who tempts people. God is not the one who tempts people. “When tempted, no one should say, ‘God is tempting me.’ For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does h tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed” (James 1:13 -14)
We are tempted by the devil We are tempted by the devil Be self -controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8)
We are tempted by the world We are tempted by the world “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2)
We are tempted by our sinful flesh We are tempted by our sinful flesh “Each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed” (James 1:13 -14)
Temptations Temptations look good on the look good on the outside but in reality they . . . outside but in reality they . . . ● Deceive us and ● Mislead us into. . . ○ false belief ○ despair ○ and other great shame and vice.
So what’s the solution? So what’s the solution? “We pray that we may finally overcome them and win the victory” (Martin Luther) “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it” (1 Corinthians 10:13
Jesus is the answer! Jesus is the answer! “We do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way just as we are - yet was without sin” (Hebrews 4:15).
So then . . . So then . . . Watch Watch and and Pray Pray "Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak" (Jesus in Matt. 26: 41)
