  2. STATEMENT Our proposal endeavours to create a three dimensional spatial journey, in which architecture of light grows around the occupants and gently encourages them through the gallery as new vantages are continually revealing themselves. Taking on from lessons learnt through the works of Anthony McCall and Sarah Oppenheimer we want to create an experience that alter the viewers of what and how they perception of space. The Piece is designed to transport the viewer into a dream like place where the constraints of the physical world are not present. The architecture created by the light will be both ethereal and gravity defying. It will create solid and void- where only void exists. The experience will be disorientation and will encourage the viewer to take there own journey through the spaces and explore the phenomenological effect that these spaces create T H E F O R M O F both visually and physically as the layers of light shift and enclose around you. L I G H T The architecture of created by these lights is static in form, and only shifts after a long pause of darkness. It increases in intensity of light as it rises from the darkness. The experience of these spaces would be amplified with the use of colour light. This will vary depending on the technique of lighting that works the most effectively. If digital projectors are used then, the colour of the light could constantly be in flux. The lights shall be concealed beneath a fake floor in which slits are cut so that sharp beams of light pass through the floor, and are reflected of mirrors in the ceiling back down into carefully positioned slits in the floor. So both the source and the received light is concealed. This will create the illusion that the architecture is growing in thin air. It is also important to conceal the light source so that the viewer does not associate the experience with that of lasers at a music concert or a projector from a cinema. 3. JOHN CAGE 1776: Harmony III: Funeral Anthem VOLUME CONCEPT The timing and mood of our proposal takes on the rhythm and tempo of John cages 44 harmonies for an apartment house. John Cage is perhaps best known for his 1952 composition 4'33", which is performed in the absence of deliberate sound. 44 harmonies FREQUENCY also uses this technique of long pauses. We propose that the timing of our composition be spaced according to this piece with the strength of light been having a direct relationship to the volume of sound in the piece. So when there is no sound there is no light. This will create an experience where the architecture of light gradually growths up around the occupant before sharply disappearing and leaving them in darkness until the next for rises. The experience of the piece SPACE will be all encompassing one of solemn wonder. LIGHTING Light-Space_Art Installation proposal presentations Kat Brice / Bing Han / Huanhai Cheng

  5. PROPOSE GALLERY LAYOUT This proposal has been deliberately left open ended so that there is a lot of room for development as a class. It requires collaboration from a lot of different skill bases to achieve its desired intension. Such as lighting investigation, floor construction, 3d calculations of architectural potential, construction of blacking out gallery, lighting engineering, potential programming etc. Luckily our class has all these skills !
