Unsafe road conditions contribute to vulnerability
Education is a challenge in the Kivori community as children have to walk for hours to reach school
Sports can keep youths away from trouble but no proper facilities available
Cooperatives - failure to form cooperatives
Kivori communities suffer a double banger – flooding at one extreme and drought on the other.
Drought
Pests destroy food / cash crops and contribute to insecurity
Health - shortage/no medicine; no ambulance; increase number of deaths
Hereparu Village
Road Conditions very difficult contributing to community vulnerability.
Efforts had been made to supply quality drinking water to the people of Kivori Hereparu
People on well water but also have pit toilets nearby.
Kivori is always hit by droughts 6 months of the year
Metal posts corroding when in contact with sand
Meauri Village
An estimated 10m beach erosion per year - next 10 to 15 yrs the village of Meauri will need to relocate
Into the grassy knoll to access the last Kivori village - Meauri
Medical Services - lack of health services
Education
Water - shortage during dry seasons
Sports - no sponsor / sporting facilities
Kivori Kui Village
Agriculture the main source of livelihood for Kivori
School Infrastructure…..
People depend on Private Motor Vehicles (PMVs) for transportation need
Failed projects in the past - Cooperatives (LLG); Water Project (LLG,EEC); Rice Project (DPI); Wind Power
Law and Order - increase in criminal activities; need to strengthen village court system
Sports - to involve youths as to counter the abuse of drugs and alcohols
Health - no medical officer; no hospital; no ambulance
