Status of NPS CERCLA Activities • 2007/2008 Remedial Investigation Findings o Possible risk associated with contaminants in soil o Impacts to surface water unlikely o Impacts to groundwater unlikely but required confirmation • 2012 Feasibility Study completed to review alternatives to address soil contamination • 2013 NPS issued Proposed Plan - Soil Cap • Also in 2013, NPS initiated additional groundwater investigation to confirm 2007/2008 Remedial Investigations findings • Based in part on public comments received, the Proposed Plan deferred until additional investigations completed Contaminated Sites Program National Park Service Environmental Compliance and Response Branch U.S. Department of the Interior

  18. Future Use Kenilworth Park South • NPS will manage as a Natural Resource Recreational Area (wildlife habitat and recreational use such as birder, cyclist, walker [Anacostia River Trail Use]).
