  1. Installation and Integration Meeting Bi-Weekly Update EOI information and Installation Reviews William Miller University of Minnesota Feb . 24 th , 2016 v2

  2. Ash River-Trail Assembly Design • Meeting Feb 15 th with Jack Fowler (Duke), Dan Wenman (PSL) and Bill Miller (UMN)to go over Trial Assembly Structure drawings in detail. Several modifications were made. • Meeting with Lee Petersen (Itasca Consulting) Matt Cramer (SRF Consulting) Bill Miller (UMN) and Jack Fowler (Duke) to go over changes to Trail Assembly Structure - Because of Cost and Schedule work was higher priority, plus CERN meeting we have still not sent Lee and Matt updated drawings - We have verbally changed the scope of their project so they have drafted a new description of their work. - Still hope to have a first order cost estimate soon to help with FY2017 SOW work • Continue to move NOvA “stuff” out of the way when free time is available

  3. Plan View Trial Assembly Drawing • Structure widened to include existing access/egress gate • 4m Extension platform added to support installation rail support and provide cleanroom roof • Decking added at top elevation of cryostat steel structure

  5. Installation & Integration Tasks The installation and integration group brings all of the detector components together in the final configuration for assembly in a safe and efficient plan that includes the final QA/QC • Installation and Integration is part of the review process for each of the WBS elements APAs, APVs, FC, Ground planes, Cold Electronics, Photon Detector, cables and feedthroughs to insure that everything fits together and how it goes together • It is critical that we have active members of the installation group in all the major WBS elements particularly during the design phase. This is a task where new members of our group can really help. 5 Feb 24, 2016 William Miller | Installation and Integration

  6. Installation & Integration Tasks • The Trial Assembly Structure at Ash River is a full scale, accurate module of the rail support structure, construction opening, and cryostat penetrations to allow testing and developing installation procedures - Current schedule has a completed structure by Sept. 1 st . - Fall 2016-TPC Rail system installed and additional assembly tools • Parallel to the Trial Assembly effort we must design and plan the cleanroom at CERN for QA/QC testing of the APAs as the electronics and photon detectors are installed. Currently this is located in Pit B next to the single – phase detector. • We do not have time in the schedule to “learn” the assembly techniques at CERN, this must all be developed and tested at Ash River. This includes all procedures and safety documentation, installation tooling and work platforms 6 Feb 24, 2016 William Miller | Installation and Integration

  7. Installation & Integration Tasks • Where can you help? - Top priority is get engaged with different detector components from the installation point of view. • DRAWINGS are needed to integrate into the 3D model • Procedure and Safety documents required for work at both Ash River and CERN. Is training, PPE or other important equipment required • QA/QC before installation, cleaning process, etc. • How many FTEs does it take, how long does it take • How are the objects handled, can handling fixtures be shared • What is the installation sequence • Staging before temporary construction opening closed • Final tests before cryostat is filled - All of these questions need to be answered 7 Feb 24, 2016 William Miller | Installation and Integration

  8. Installation & Integration Review • Each subsystem has a design review that includes installation and our group needs to be involved now to be ready! • Review documentation, drawings, installation and safety procedures are all areas our group needs help in preparing Subsystem Design Review Production Readiness Review APA June 2016 End Jan 2017 CPA and Field Cage Oct 2016 Feb 2017 DAQ August 2016 Feb 2017 Photon Detector End July 2016 Oct 2016 Cold Electronics August 2016 Feb 2017 TPC DDS with APA TBD TBD Installation With each component March 2017 8 Feb 24, 2016 William Miller | Installation and Integration
