Allocation of Money � £9,050 allocated to Marilyn Andrews ( then Chair of IPE sub – committee) in 2008 � Money funded 2 staff ( 0.1 WTE each) � I Physiotherapy Lecturer + 1 Midwifery Lecturer � ½ day per week Oct. 2008 - June 2009
Purpose � To develop stage 3 of the IPE strand in the curricula of the nine disciplines involved in IPE since its full implementation in Sept. 2007
Background � Interprofessional education (IPE) was fully implemented at Keele University across 9 health and social care disciplines in Sept. 2007 � Clinical Psychology, Health Sciences, Medicine, Midwifery, Nursing, Operating Department Practice, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy and Social Work were the disciplines involved
Background cont’d � IPE strands 1 and 2 are university based and are implemented in years 1 and 2 respectively � Students are allocated to multiprofessional groups (x 34) � PBL scenarios are used to facilitate students' understanding of each professional role, responsibilities and interprofessional collaboration � Assessment is via poster presentations and Root Cause Analysis reports
Development of IPE 3 � ILO’s already in place provided framework for development � Work / practice based IPE � Spontaneously occurring professional groups � Need for multi-source feedback ( a requirement of the majority of disciplines) � Student responsibility and ownership increased
Process � Consultation with all disciplines � Majority use portfolios as a vehicle for learning and assessment � Majority seek multi-source feedback on student performance � Therefore..............
Process cont’d � A generic, IPE 3 outcome focused trigger sheet and guidance notes were designed � These were included in students’ practice based assessment documents
Launch � Presented to IPE Sub-committee for approval � Presented to staff within each School � Launched with all students in Sept. 2009 � Preparation of work based mentors / assessors is the responsibility of IPE co-ordinators in each School � Assessment via portfolio entries, reflection, multi-source feedback and Personal Tutor interviews ( all of which were integral to each curriculum)
Evaluation � Existing evaluation tool (used for IPE 1 and IPE 2) modified to accommodate changes in IPE 3 � Disseminated to students and Personal Tutors in Sept. 2010 � Returned to IPE 3 co-ordinators who will collate data
