What is a Traditional Heath Worker?  Traditional Health Workers have been working in their communities all over the world for centuries.  To be recognized as a valued part of the health system and be eligible to bill Medicaid, in 2011 the Oregon legislature passed HB 3650.This bill created the structure that allows THWs to become certified through the Oregon Health Authority.  There are 7 different types of THWs:  Community Health Worker  Peer Support Specialist  Family Support Specialist  Youth Support Specialist  Peer Wellness Specialist  Personal Health Navigator  Doula  The THW model provides culturally responsive, trauma informed, and high quality care to underserved populations. They are part of PS’s health equity strategy and work to address social determinants of health, an essential part of CCO 2.0.

What is the THW Liaison’s role?  S upport and expand the THW workforce, including educating and supporting THWs on the contracting and reimbursement process  Coordinate THW trainings opportunities and recruit participants with lived experience and who are trusted members of the community they serve  Educate clinical providers, community based organizations, and health systems on THW integration best practice  Increase member access to THWs  Inform PS ’s Trillium’s THW Payment Methodology Workgroup to support building alternative payment models that provide livable wages for THWs  Collaborate with the OHA ’s THW Commission and THW workforce associations to learn and listen about workforce needs

  6. Work we are doing together  Collaborating on…  S uccessfully completed Part -1 of Community Health Work Train-the-Trainer Training. In discussions with Oregon Community Health Worker Association (ORCHWA) and the new trainers to develop next steps to bring additional CHW trainings to our community.  Collaborating with the Oregon Doula Association to provide statewide Doula training that also engages local Doulas.  Coordinating with ORCHWA to bring a CHW S upervisor training to Lane County  Discussing general THW workforce strategies and advocacy  Mutually engaged with…  PS / Trillium Community Advisory Council (CAC)  Healthcare Integration Collaboration (HIC)  OHA ’s THW Commission’s Payment Model S up-Committee  PS / Trillium’s Rural Advisory Council (RAC)  Monthly state-wide meeting with THW Liaisons from a variety of CCOs  Bi-weekly ORHCWA Policy and Advocacy Committee
