Inspection and assessment of food - as imported IFC Act – application to food for further manufacturing The Act applies to all food imported for human consumption – with a few exemptions (ships stores, private consumption etc) It does not allow for food that will be further processed post-border Example: Juice concentrate imported for further manufacture post border. The IFC Act applies but Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code does not contain MRLs for a specific ag chemical in juice concentrate, only juice. Concentrate has higher residue detected – failed. Raw milk cheeses Update on interest and applications - Application for several raw milk cheeses received from France – in progress - Interest received from UK – application forms provided - Continue to receive ‘information’ on illegal raw milk cheeses – investigate and generally find the cheese is permitted because it has been made using thermised milk or the cheese has undergone a curd cook Department of Agriculture and IFIS Update 19 July 2018 10 Water Resources
Bivalve molluscs New import requirements coming……. - Delayed in progressing this work - Next consultation to commence in August with WTO SPS notification - IFC Order amendment in November 2018 - 12 month transition for country’s to apply and be assessed for equivalence – negotiate government certification Department of Agriculture and IFIS Update 19 July 2018 11 Water Resources
IFIS importer declarations for cheese and ready-to-eat processed finfish From 8 August 2018, importers and brokers can lodge Imported Food Inspection Scheme (IFIS) importer declarations for some types of food: Cheese made from unpasteurised milk (Mandatory) Enables importers to demonstrate that the cheese being imported is permitted because it has received a heat treatment during production. Cheese that does not support the growth of Listeria monocytogenes (Voluntary) Enables importers to demonstrate that the cheese does not support the growth of Listeria monocytogenes. Ready-to-eat processed finfish that does not support the growth of Listeria monocytogenes (Voluntary) Enables importers to demonstrate that the finfish does not support the growth of Listeria monocytogenes. Carbon monoxide in fish Survey report to be published and new border controls coming… ‒ Small targeted pilot survey undertaken in May to July 2017. ‒ The survey report, Carbon Monoxide in Fish Pilot Survey March 2018, will be published on Friday, 20 July 2018. ‒ The department will introduce border controls for the inspection and analysis of carbon monoxide (CO) treatment of tuna. These controls are anticipated to commence in November 2018. ‒ An Imported food notice advising of the introduction of border controls for carbon monoxide in tuna will be published on Friday, 20 July 2018.
