Public Land Supplement p. xiii
Field-day Locations • I need to know the locations of all of your field days. • I need to know the locations of your Snow Travel and Grad Hike field days as soon as possible. • We do not need to use CMC trips for any location.
Heartbeats After every field day report to Joe: • Location • Number of instructors • Number of students
Snow Travel • We have USFS permits for St. Marys Glacier (5), Loveland Pass (3), and Berthoud Pass (1). • Snow Travel is not optional for this session.
Jeffco Open Space
Jeffco Open Space Fire Rules “You must burn only charcoal or the firewood provided. Firewood larger than the diameter of the fire pit/rings is prohibited. Cutting trees or bushes or gathering dried material is prohibited.”
Fire Safety
Supplement: Fire Safety • Before starting the fire make sure that you have adequate water on hand to extinguish it. Many campsites provide buckets for that purpose. Please use them. • Keep the fire small. A large piece of wood that has been burning for an extended period will be difficult to cool. The material that you ignite should be mostly ashes when you finish. • When finished, douse the fire with plenty of water, then stir the ashes and douse it again. The remains of the fire should be cool to the touch after dousing. • Watch the remains of the fire for at least a half hour before leaving the campsite. That is a good time to do one of the other exercises for the day, such as shelter building or the mock emergency. p. 40

Graduation Hike • CMC trips are no longer needed. • It is a required field day. • Most will need to be in the state parks.
Permits for Colorado State Parks Step One: Submit a list once per year of qualified instructors. • Submit WFA/CPR credentials, less than 2 years old. • Submit a resume. • Provide the identity of the vehicle to be used.
Permits for Colorado State Parks Step Two: Obtain permit for specific field day. A long lead time is not needed for this. On the field day: • Pay the usual park entrance fee or have a park pass. • A guide slip must be dropped at the entrance station or self pay station at the beginning of your day and client fees will be billed at the end of the month. • Stay on the trail and do not interfere with access for other park users.
Parking in Golden Parking 2+ Hours • If you plan to stay longer than two hours between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., there are convenient parking garages and parking lots close to downtown indicated in Blue on the map. • The first two hours are free, each additional hour is $2 to a maximum of $8/day. • After 5 p.m., and on Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays**, you can park here for free. • You must register your vehicle at the pay station, even if you are planning to stay less than two hours. • X indicates the location of parking pay stations.
