Regulatory position DfT: Pathw ays to driverless cars https: / / www.gov.uk/ government/ publications/ driverless- cars-in-the-uk-a-regulatory-review Summary Report/ Action plan + Detailed Review “Driverless vehicles can legally be tested on public roads in the UK today providing a test driver is present and takes responsibility for the safe operation of the vehicle; and that the vehicle can be used compatibly with road traffic law.” Tests not limited to test tracks or certain geographical areas Do not need to obtain certificates or permits, or provide a surety bond (do need insurance).
